  1. The shooter is a dying breed, but Namco has found a way to revitalize it and make it contagious for both hardcore role-players who seek something fresh and twitchy fingered gamers who have long waited to see this genre evolve. [Aug 2005, p.109]
  2. It's akin to Square's best work, though there aren't as many characters to latch onto and fall in love with.

A good idea ruined by a design team that tried to get too cute. This game would have been a classic if they worked the upgrade system on your craft's gunnery into your planetside firearm, and gave you, the character stats and upgradeables as well.

I love shooters... but getting all the way to a boss, dying, and finding you have to start back at the BEGINNING of a level gets very old, very fast. Do yourself a favor and pick up Gradius Generation (or possibly Iridion 2) if you want a good GBA shooter. Expand

This game tries to subscribe to the fact that blending _anything_ with an RPG is a good idea. Unfortunately for Sigma Star Saga, neither the dungeon crawling nor the battle sequences are even remotely compelling - which is unfortunate, the storyline seems like it's very enjoyable. The repetition is what really kills this game for me; level design in the battle sequences is practically non-existant, and the dungeon crawling is just plain unremarkable and sluggish to play. A nice try, but it falls really short. Expand
