    It's difficult to recommend this game, because it is aimed at a very specific niche. But I will say that if you dislike shooters or aren't very skilled at them, definitely try before you buy.
  3. Is the game perfect? No, it has some problems, but if you are willing to look past the little qualms, you will be surprised at what a remarkable game Sigma Star Saga really is.

    The result, though a little awkward, is a hybrid with neither the depth of a true RPG nor the frenetic pace and art design of a pure-bred shooter. Both sides of the experience are fun, but less than stellar.
  5. With a little more work and care on the WayForward's s part, Sigma Star Saga could have been up there with the many 16-bit classics that it was inspired by. Unfortunately, the developer just didn't manage to follow through.
  6. The combination of an RPG and a side-scrolling shooter isn't a bad one, but constantly switching between them so constantly makes for too much of a jarring experience.
  7. An intriguing idea on paper, but the shooter and RPG elements just don't mesh that well. If the shooter side had more exciting, thumb-blistering action, it would have compensated for the rest of this dull package.

    I love shooters... but getting all the way to a boss, dying, and finding you have to start back at the BEGINNING of a level gets very old, I love shooters... but getting all the way to a boss, dying, and finding you have to start back at the BEGINNING of a level gets very old, very fast. Do yourself a favor and pick up Gradius Generation (or possibly Iridion 2) if you want a good GBA shooter. Expand

Unfortunately for Sigma Star Saga, neither the dungeon crawling nor the battle sequences are even remotely compelling - which is unfortunate, the storyline seems like it's very enjoyable. The repetition is what really kills this game for me; level design in the battle sequences is practically non-existant, and the dungeon crawling is just plain unremarkable and sluggish to play. A nice try, but it falls really short. Expand
