If you’re not a Spyro fan, this is still a passable and thoroughly engrossing game that exhausts you with all the item searching – but hey, that’s what a good platform game does.
VU games does better on the GBA now cause I guess it is less complicated. Not as memorable as the playstation trilogy but is memorable in the GBA library.
Spyro has definitely not lost its audio-visual lustre since its first inception, but it has some ways to go to dislodge Mario on the handheld platform.
It runs poorly, presents itself poorly, and simply is true and utter trash. The only area of remote interest is the 3D level, but that alone isn't worth the price of the game.
Although this played very much like a typical spyro game and had your typical arsenal of spyro abilities, the levels were really hit or miss with me. Some of them were really fun and just the right amount of challenging while others I just didn't like or didn't care about or the quests simply became too frustrating for me to enjoy. The music is good and the graphics are good, Overall I still really like the game....there are just some parts I don't particularly care for. Still, for a GBA game, I like the things they added in (moving levels, different themes, different creatures and actually helping the fairies) and it's still a good game worth the play.
Spyro's Game Boy Advance adventure isn't without it's flaws, it's graphics are ok, as is the sound, controls are good, the story is good, and the gameplay is solid, it suffers from some flying issues which mess up the plat forming, all in all even with it's flaws it's a good game.
This is why isometric view platforms will never be so good. I think even Rayman Hoodlum Revenge is better (and that game is terrible). The graphics and the music are the only good thing about the game, I must say that in this section it stands out a lot. But the gameplay feels like a bad port from the PS1 games, being in isometric view but having the same exploration elements as 3d games, it means that the perspective and the hitbox is all over the place. You will never know how to distinguish between a higher platform than the one you are already in a jump (and less if the jump includes gliding), also the camera is very close so it is very difficult to explore the environment, almost as if the game expected you to be playing in 3d as if it were the original version. It is easy to fall off the platforms especially since most of them are placed diagonally and not to mention completing 100% of the game, when you do not have any help or anything to find the remaining elements of the stage.
A shame that the first Spyro game not made by imsomniac turned out to be so bad, after the great game that was Spyro 3.
