Powerful forces have been set in motion, but their motives are masked by political intrigue. It is your mission to investigate these occurrences and discover the true intentions of those involved. The ending of the game will depend on the actions that the main character, Alphonse, takes. 1. If you've never played a Quest game (and let's face it, not many in this country have), this is an awesome chance to find out why they're so great. [April 2002, p.68]
  2. The story is rich and interesting with just enough plot twists and turns to keep you on your toes, but not too many to make you scratch your head in confusion...Without a doubt, one of the finest games for the GBA to date.

There are some downsides, such as the sluggish pace and initially overly easy computer AI, but once you get deeper into the game and get wrapped up in the storyline you'll soon forget about these shortcomings.
  4. A good game, but it fails to distinguish itself enough from it’s 1997 cousin. Same character models, same environments, same battle engine, same items, same weapons, same spells...there’s something to be said for consistency, but I feel Tactics Ogre needed to expand on the idea a little more, not just carbon-copy it.

This is by far one of the best video games ever made. The sheer number of different character combinations you can have is astounding. The story is compelling, and the gravity of it all is breathtaking. There is nothing better than having a holy spear or a complete set of elemental armor. And the fact that you can have characters such as Angel Knights or Liches adds so much more flavor to an already rich game. Few games can begin to compare to this masterpiece. Expand
  4. This game is a must have for people who are in love with turn-based strategy games like myself. The gameplay is very unique and has a lot of strategy elements in it: terrain, elements, different classes, weather, etc. The story is also very interesting which is consistent with the Tactics Ogre franchise. Difficulty wise, i think the game is fair - until you spend a lot of time grinding in the training mode which can be repeated infinitely - then the game becomes a cakewalk. The game also allows the player to pick different routes which lead to alternate endings which increases the game's replayability. I have recently purchased the Tactics Ogre game for PSP, which is a remake of the original because of my love for this game. I am sad that these type of games don't have a much of a place on consoles anymore because of a niche market - but I am happy that Atlus continues to develop these games. (Overall 9+ - battle is a bit slow paced, animations are a bit slow) Collapse
