The way the team constructed specific gameplay elements opens up the game design in an entirely different direction, breathing fresh life into one of the best action designs of the past half decade.
  2. 95
From the main story mode to the arcade mode to the multiplay, there's not a weak spot to be found.

A solid engine, great level designs and good graphics. It's hard to imagine how this game could be improved upon.
  4. It contains everything that was good about the previous three games while it adds a single new move and a modest set of new features that, once again, inject freshness into a formula that never seems to run out of steam.

The ability to step off the board and walk around is great. [Spring 2004, p.37]
  6. 80
It's fast, deep, and engaging, and the story mode is perfect for laying back with when you've got a free moment on the bus.
  7. More niggly than the GC version and less accessible. If you're prepared to give it some attention you'll be rewarded with a deep and challenging experience. If you want an easier Tony Hawk game try the GameCube ones.
  8. Once I got past the grunt-work, I did warm up to Underground - a little. [Dec 2003, p.187]
