From the gameplay to the graphics, Van Helsing is one poorly developed game. I don't even care what the excuses are, this game should not have been released in the state that it's in.
  2. Unfortunately, the graphics are simply horrible. The entire game lacks any real pizzazz, and the entire game feels lifeless.
  3. If you're looking for a horrifically bad game that takes less than two hours to finish--but arguably does follow the plot of the film--then, by all means, give Van Helsing a shot. Just remember to hold onto the receipt.

At the least, however, players shouldn't be scolded for anticipating games that are not rushed, boring, and feature broken gameplay that lasts less than the time it takes to watch the film's they're based upon.
  5. The game is a repetitive button masher that requires a shade more intelligence than a potted fern to operate, and players can expect to just keep going through the same thing over and over again screen after screen, level after level, with a few new weapon upgrades that really won’t add any excitement. The collision detection is horrible, and the game loses any fun value after about the first 15 minutes.

An absolute crapfest of a portable experience.
  7. So bad that even having a review for the game is a waste. Whatever you do, don’t play this game. The only good thing that might come out of Van Helsing is that you might value your other games much, much more.

Responsive play control and detailed graphics will make you want to venture deep into the story, but difficult battles against incidental enemies may keep you from your goal. [Aug 2004, p.123]
  9. Alas, there must exist crap amongst the cream of the crop. I really wanted to get behind Van Helsing -- really -- but cannot ignore the terribly sloppy interface that fails to entertain one in the slightest.
  10. It’s obviously slapped together for a quick buck, but it isn’t worth yours. With poor gameplay and underpar production values, you won’t be seeing this title praised by anyone.

I must say, a very impressive game. It follows the movie pretty faithfully, and even has a few scenes not in the movie. The interface took I must say, a very impressive game. It follows the movie pretty faithfully, and even has a few scenes not in the movie. The interface took some getting used to, and the graphics and sound prevent me from rating this game any higher. But the overall enjoyment of being Van Helsing and combating the forces of Darkness is enough for me to play this game. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys having a GBA. Really Full Review »
