  1. In motion, Alien Hominid is like nothing else - there's always so much going on and the smooth characters and animations most modern 2D titles to shame.
  2. Grabs you by the funny bone and tender parts and body slams your senses right from the start, and if you just don't love that little guy the first time you lay eyes on him, you're just too jaded.
  3. In a business full of cheap knock-offs and umpteenth sequels, where a recognizable title or endorsement can make games instant best-sellers, Alien Hominid is a diamond in the rough. Highly recommended.
  4. Is there room in your growing library of games for a little game with a lot of big ideas and action so addictive that you'll long for the days when 2D shooters felt this good?
  5. In fact, it feels fresher and more compelling with each new level.
  6. It presents itself as one of the best shooters to be released in a long while. It brings itself to the table as a purely fun game, modeled after a true classic, and doesn't try to impress with flashy graphics or a deep story--because it doesn't have to.
  7. Experienced gamers will blow through Alien Hominid rather quickly, but you'll be ready to jump right back to the beginning as soon as the credits finish rolling.
  8. The creators of Alien Hominid tout their independence in an era of corporate consolidation in the video game industry. Fortunately, there's enough originality and heart-pounding action to warrant a look by any fan of retro action gaming.
  9. While its gameplay design may appear to be derivative, there truly isn't anything else quite like Alien Hominid on consoles today.
  10. Considering Alien Hominid's humble beginnings as a web-based flash game, the game we get here is as good or better than most side-scrolling shoot "em ups in recent memory.
  11. A very unique game. The minute your space ship lands in the city, Alien Hominid is non-stop booger-nosed funk action from top to bottom.

This bold and beautiful brainchild from it's beginnings at has been bloody brilliant and a ball-buster to beat, and now at a bargain price for the GameCube, it's become even better.
  13. 81
It looks good, it's cute and funny, the bosses are interesting, the control is tight, and the game is intense.
  14. Game Informer
One of my favorite games of the year...It makes up for its lack of finesse with sheer style and quirkiness. [Dec 2004, p.168]
  15. Offers up a serving of both what was great and frustrating about old-school gaming. This is likely to divide players, but me? I liked it.
  16. 80
The most creative and cathartic button masher since cult favorite "Gunstar Heroes."

You'll adore Alien Hominid. An attractive price, original concept, and splendid execution outshine issues such as its short-lived thrills and shallow premise.
  18. games(TM)
Alien Hominid is a joyful experience, an unashamedly simple game that makes you want to play until you can't feel your hands anymore... The perfect budget game. [Jan 2005, p.104]
  19. Electronic Gaming Monthly
Great bosses, plenty of maneuvers, maybe a little short, but packed with quality fun. [Holiday 2004, p.100]
  20. 78
A refreshingly devious action game long overdue in the sea of 3-D platformers and first person shooters.
  21. Do not let the cartoon-like presentation fool you; Alien Hominid will be unforgiving and merciless to the unassuming gamer. The level of challenge present will either have you throwing controllers in disgust or frothing at the mouth for more.
  22. Play Magazine
AH is a manic, rock-hard, 2D assault on your motor skills that may lack the polish of the best of this mighty genre, but gets a pass for being the coolest homegrown game ever. [Nov 2004, p.75]
  23. Nintendo Power
A slate of 14 unlockable minigames gives you a break from the adrenaline-infused action. [Jan 2005, p.138]
  24. 70
A complete and total rip off of "Metal Slug." But we mean that in a good way.
  25. 70
Alien Hominids control scheme doesn't allow for players to fire diagonally. Also, the console version is intended for 2 players--single player games are frustratingly hard due to the cheap AI.
  26. Edge Magazine
Alien Hominid is just about an essential title for anyone who's caught themselves yearning for a forgotten past, or to any young blood wondering what people mean when they say they don't make them like they used to. [Jan 2005, p.97]
  27. 70
A great package. A little quirky and rough around the edges, it survives on originality, genuinely funny content and an enormous challenge.
  28. With a great style taken directly from the pages of a deranged art student's sketchbook and fun if occasionally frustrating action to boot, this little alien proves that you don't need a big, fancy ship to invade a home console.

This is what gaming is all about: play for 15 minutes, and you won't be able to do anything the rest of the weekend.
