  1. One of the best video games ever made.
  2. The game is simple, elegant and everything that a "game" should be: fun.

While Electronic Art's blatant clone, "Simpsons Road Rage," has much improved graphics, a two-player mode, and free ride option, Crazy Taxi still comes out ahead in pure controllability and gameplay.
  4. A solid port of a great arcade game that does not get fudged in the translation.
  5. It wears on you after a while, but for new players, you have a lot of passengers to pick up before you get jaded.

The GameCube controller responds well, and both the silly speech quips and the Offspring punk tunes sound great.
  7. 76
The short sessions ensure you grab as many pedestrians as you can, but, like an arcade game, you get bored of it quickly, and wouldn't play more than 15 minutes at a time after the novelty has worn off.

Just a plain and simple port; nothing worth noting has been added. [Jan 2002, p.85]
  9. If you're one of the lucky ones who haven't had the pleasure then please, go out and buy it; you'll find it an absolute joy. Unfortunately, it's a joy most of us have already experienced and moved on from.
  10. Good for quick laugh, but that's about it. No multiplayer, and limited gameplay means there's not much life in this game.
  11. As good a game as it ever was. If you've never played it before, then now is an ideal time to take the plunge.
  12. The game is ideal for players who have never sat behind Crazy Taxi’s wheel. Veteran drivers, however, would do well to skip this fare.

With only two major cities to explore and nine mini-games it still feels like an arcade game...[but] an awesome game if you didn't play it on previous systems.
  14. An overall disappointment. As the direct port of a three-year-old game, certain steps should have been taken to bring it up to par.

Lots of thrills and hills. It just doesn’t have the character and control that the Simpsons game has. [Jan 2002, p.130]

Perhaps due to its arcade roots, Crazy Taxi has always had a general lack of depth. It’s no different here on the GameCube.
  17. The gameplay is great in short bursts (which is why it worked so well in the arcade) but if you play for more than a few hours it gets extremely repetitive.
  18. A mediocre port of what can already be considered an old but classic Dreamcast game.
  19. The quick-and-dirty port does everything the DC and PS2 releases did--meaning it looks good for a Dreamcast game but pretty awful when compared with anything else released on the GameCube so far.

Crazy Taxi’s voices used to be fun...They’ve been replaced with some flat, bored-sounding clips that don’t come close to the original’s amusing, quotable lines.

The Gamecube version is solid and the gameplay, visuals and music all remain the same after all these years. I picked it up for a low price and I do enjoy it. Good, arcade fun. The only issue I have found with the game is that sometimes before or after you pick up a fare, the car may not accelerate. This has caused me to lose lots of time. It's a little clunky and takes some finessing, but overall, it's Crazy Taxi, a classic arcade gem that must be in your collection. Full Review »
