  • Summary: Get ready to enter a world of hypertech weapons, holosseums, and heavy-barrel battles. Custom Robo puts you in the pilot's seat of a state-of-the-art war machine in the not-too-distant future where crime and justice duke it out in virtual battlegrounds. With the game's powerful, innovative customization, you can construct your robot from the ground up using an arsenal of more than 200 parts and weapons, from guns and bombs to robo models and homing pods. Many weapons are freely available on the market, but some--deadly and highly illegal--can only be acquired in secret robo gambling rooms and from the hands of crime syndicates. Expand

  1. Once story mode is out of the way you will discover a gem of a fighter. You just have to persevere through the story. Don't give up!

Thanks to the huge amount of customization options, this game offers much more depth of gameplay than what's found in your average fighting game. If only so much tedium wasn't involved in accessing all of it.
  3. The best part of Custom Robo, and the only reason to play through single player, is the level of customization you get with your miniaturized death machine.
  4. 65
Amusing for short periods of time. But, I was never compelled to play it. Too many things bothered me, like the "RPG" story mode that isn't really an RPG, the implausibility of the storyline, and how little strategy and skill is required to succeed.
  5. Custom Robo makes a great rental. Keep in mind that the longer you spend with it, the less you'll probably like it.
  6. It's an uneven mix of the flashy, the goofy, the hectic, and the insipid -- that pretty much sums up the Custom Robo experience.
  7. 22
This game just bored the life out of me from the second I put it into my GameCube. There are so many problems with Custom Robo that it amazes me that Nintendo was willing to publish it in the first place.

The customization and multiplayer aspects of this game are great, fantastic even! They were easy enough to jump right into, but hard enough to take time to master. I have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the multiplayer. The REALLY BIG FLAW in this game is that you need to beat one player story mode to unlock all of the parts. I am sorry, but the single player mode was down right awful. The storyline, the adventure, the repetitiveness, everything. My score:
    single-player mode: 3
    multiplayer mode: 8

Has a lot of potential, but wasn't executed well. Story elements are only explained through long segments of boring dialogue. Players will inevitably be mashing the A button just to skip the useless blocks of text. Due to the lack of voice acting and major development, none of the characters feel real or relatable, making the dialogue even more unimportant. If players can look beyond the massive segments of worthless dialogue and dull overworld segments, a game with a lot of potential is seen. The formula isn't perfected, seeing as how bombs and pods are mostly useless, but with more thought and better design, this franchise can really be something more than mediocre. Nintendo should improve the characters and story, improve the gameplay, and add more to the level design. The majority of the game is just walking around, then dialogue, than fighting. Adding more substance might exploit the real potential this game has. Expand
