  • Summary: With fierce conflict unfolding in the streets of America, it's your patriotic duty to fight back. Take on the role of Christopher Stone, and evolve from an average New Yorker into a fearless patriot who recruits and leads an army of freedom fighters in the streets of New York City. Freedom Fighters combines the depth of a squad-based game with the intensity of an action-packed war game, all of which unfolds in the streets, subways, and buildings of a modern-day urban battleground. 1. One of the most interesting titles to come out for the Nintendo GameCube and any Cube gamer would be foolish to pass a game like this up.
  2. Deftly avoids the many pitfalls of AI squad tactics, and this, combined with great control, mission design, and presentation, makes for a truly fantastic game.
  3. While the gameplay is pretty tight, it’s the addition of charisma and squad mates that sets the game apart.
  4. Eliminating enemy forces and hoisting our country's colors high above Manhattan rooftops never feels repetitive... Sadly, Freedom Fighters is over too quickly, it's easily completed during a weekend sitting. [Oct 2003, p.131]
  5. It's far less intricate than a regular squad-based game, yet it retains all the elements that make them fun - as opposed to a title like Brute Force, which had none of them. A fine display of IO's creative talent. [Oct 2003, p.116]
  6. A good third-person, team-building, shooter for the GameCube. But it needs more depth to the AI, longer levels and less linear missions.
  7. The story may be weak and the opposition dumb; the lack of depth doesn’t have to stop you from having a great time blasting some Soviets in this otherwise decent game.
