91The audio is perfect, using clips straight out of the movie.
-
I havent had this much fun with a fighting game since well, its been a long, long time.
-
Sure, there could have been a few more monsters included, sure the areas could have been a bit larger, but these are mere quibbles to the fun had in this game.
-
84As far as multiplayer experiences go, Godzilla represents one of GameCube's very best. Add in a great, beautiful presentation and lots of subtle and not so subtle humor elements, and this one is a keeper for fighting and Godzilla fans.
-
81The graphics are great and the gameplay, though a little sluggish, is just plain fun.
-
80The best monster game since "Rampage."
-
Godzilla may not be the deepest game in the world, and it may lack variety, but it's one heck of a party game and a highly amusing feast for the eyes. [Nov 2002, p.131]
-
The fighting system isn't gargantuan, but the monsters make it fun. [Nov 2002, p.219]
-
80Though it misses a beat here and there, DAMM ultimately rocks hard in the gameplay department.
-
80The best Godzilla game to date. It would be a good brawler even without the big green guy, as the fighting mechanics are solid all-around.
-
79Rent for you loners, buy for you fighter-lovers, either way, you should have a really good time.
-
77The limited longevity and lack of subtlety tends to wear down an otherwise entertaining scrap-fest.
-
Melee's biggest blunder is that it just isn't campy enough. [18 Oct 2002, p.123]
-
75The only big complaint to level against Godzilla is that it's a bit too simple...Call some friends over and have a blast with the multiplayer mayhem, but don't expect to be glued to the controller after they leave.
-
It's hard to top pummeling an opponent with a building you just ripped from its foundation. [Dec 2002, p.234]
-
And while the game has a variety of game-play modes, they aren't very deep once you've mastered the basics.
-
70Godzilla & Co. wrecking cityscapes and each other, with support up to four players. What's not to like? [Feb 2003, p.96]
-
Godzilla can't compete with top fighting games like DOA3, but then you'd be foolish to expect it to. It's probably going to appeal more to people who like monster movies.
-
A little bit more polish would have helped this game considerably, but right now in its current form it more than satisfies my craving for devastation.
-
The top dog in large-scale fighting. The fact that it's covered with melted Japanese cheese is merely icing on the cake. [Nov 2002, p.90]
-
69Turns out to be quite shallow.
-
67One of the most fantastic things about the multiplayer mode is the complete absence of any slowdown, even when things are getting insanely wild with all four players and the military mixing it up on the screen.
-
67What ultimately brings Godzilla: DAMM down is its repetitious nature...Regardless, hardcore Godzilla fans will eat this up. [Nov 2002, p.78]
-
60It definitely has an "Atari-esque" feel about it. But, unfortunately the rest of the game just isnt up to scratch.
-
60It almost makes up for that movie.
-
The sense of scale is commendable. Trudging through heavily populated urban areas while stomping on and picking up buildings as though they were mere toys is strangely fulfilling, as is the act of devastating these areas, though problems begin to surface here.
-
The move list for each monsters is VERY basic, a button and a direction, and some button mashing in the hopes of making a viable string combo.
-
60The only real complaint is that the game is perhaps a bit too shallow. Most likely to be left as a rental for the masses, the game is nonetheless a fun and very original gaming experience.
-
If you can overlook the fact that the developers don't love Godzilla as much as you do, then you can easily spend several enjoyable hours with Godzilla:DAMM.
-
Fighting games are based on fast reactions and timing; this game doesnt bother to interpret either of these fundamentals with fights being far less engrossing and hands-on than playing with plastic dinosaurs while making grrroooar! noises.
