  • Summary: Legendary monsters battle among Earth's cities to determine the planet's fate. In Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, you can play as Godzilla or any of his longtime rivals as they fight hand-to-hand, at close range, and with special moves. Each massive beast has different physical attributes and special projectile weapons. You'll fight in cities such as Tokyo and San Francisco--all featuring real building destruction and physics. For multiplayer fighting mayhem, you can bring three of your friends into the battle. Collapse

  1. The audio is perfect, using clips straight out of the movie.

As far as multiplayer experiences go, Godzilla represents one of GameCube's very best. Add in a great, beautiful presentation and lots of subtle and not so subtle humor elements, and this one is a keeper for fighting and Godzilla fans.
  3. Godzilla may not be the deepest game in the world, and it may lack variety, but it's one heck of a party game and a highly amusing feast for the eyes. [Nov 2002, p.131]
  4. A little bit more polish would have helped this game considerably, but right now in its current form it more than satisfies my craving for devastation.
  5. And while the game has a variety of game-play modes, they aren't very deep once you've mastered the basics.
  6. One of the most fantastic things about the multiplayer mode is the complete absence of any slowdown, even when things are getting insanely wild with all four players and the military mixing it up on the screen.
  7. Fighting games are based on fast reactions and timing; this game doesn’t bother to interpret either of these fundamentals with fights being far less engrossing and hands-on than playing with plastic dinosaurs while making “grrroooar!” noises.

As a Godzilla fanatic, I was looking forward to this game quite a bit. The multiplayer mode is solid, fun, and good for parties. So, why does this get a 1/10?

The Adventure mode, which is damn near essential to beat in order to have fun with multiplayer (due to unlocking new characters) is godawful. Incredibly unfair, rage-inducing, and terribly designed, the Adventure mode is from hell. I'm fine with hard games; hell, I play them all the time (Zelda 2: The Adventure Of Link and Castlevania Dracula X for instance) but this is 100% unfair. Don't touch this Godzilla-sized turd.
