  1. Entertainment Weekly
An excellent first installment that offers gaming's best surfing experience. [4 Oct 2002, p.158]
  2. Although not graphically superior, KSPS holds the essence of surfing in solid gameplay, authenticity, and depth.
  3. The simple fact is that this is one of the most frustrating games I've ever played. There's really no way I can possibly stress that enough. The longer you play, the less you can concentrate and the worse your surfer does.
  4. A very good surfing game that’s distinct enough to stand on its own, but doesn’t reach the same level of brilliance as games like "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater" and "SSX."
  5. Hardly the deepest but certainly the coolest game of its type. [NGC]
  6. A surfing game that exhibits a high level of quality in every facet of its execution.
  7. 84
The best surfing game to date, with energetic play, a strong audio-visual presentation, and design mechanics.
  8. One of the best elements of the game is the presentation. Everything is put together extremely well, with no down time, boring level introductions, or yawn-worthy commentaries.
  9. While it may not capture the "feel" of surfing quite as well as its closest competitor, it makes up for it with better wave models and the incredible number of actions to perform on each wave.
  10. 80
The most impressive looking and playing surf game ever created, whether you're looking at the water technology, the extras, or the design itself.
  11. A very solid surfing game that easily lives up the caliber we have come to expect and love from the kings of extreme sports, Activision.
  12. Nintendo Power
While surf locations are not as varied as THPS skateparks, the game delivers fun in the sun. [Nov 2002, p.224]
  13. I was blown away by how good this game was. It really does take surfing and make it into a fun gaming experience. The main factor is how each wave has its own identity in look, dimensions, and more, just like in real life.
  14. If you’re prepared to put up with this lack of variation, you’ll find a good, solid game with many parallels to the Tony Hawk’s series itself.
