License aside, this is the best golf title I've ever played. If you dig the sport and don't have a GameCube, it's time to buy one. [Oct 2003, p.48]
When it comes to sports games, nothing can really beat "Tiger Woods" in the realism department, but nothing can really beat Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour in the fun department.

I Have been Homeless for about three days now. When my house burned down I could only save two Items. My phone (so I could write this) and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour. Even though my Gamecube burned down in the Fire and I can't play it. It is truly the best game ever.

As for those of you who are only keen on the Mario themed courses, keep in mind that Toadstool Tour will start off slow and you'll be playing on normal realistic-type courses to start off with.
While the improvements made to driving are welcome, as are the new courses and characters, the gameplay ultimately suffers due to poorly designed putting.
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour takes the adorable charm of Mario and the world of the Mushroom Kingdom and mixes it in with a solid and surprisingly comprehensive game of golf.
The greens play far too slowly, even on the desert courses, and despite the greens being covered in a nicely implemented undulation marker when you come to putt, they are incredibly difficult to judge.
Golfing game standards like club selection, power meter, and control of backspins and topspins satisfy, but the sometimes-clunky controls and confusing camera perspectives will leave you teed-off.
I originally purchased this game shortly after its initial release in 2003, and thought it was a rather solid Gamecube title. At the time, I didn't realize how great **** it truly is. Thirteen years later, it's one of the few games I still play on regular basis.
There's really no need in explaining the 'plot' or familiar gameplay elements that are in similar casual golf games, so I'll cut to the chase: It's a highly addictive golf game with a pleasant 'Mario' style that is best enjoyed with friends. There are a few mini games which I've honestly only ever slightly dabbled in, and the game does have a bit of hidden depth. Spinning the ball can be a particularly advantageous way to play if you wish to approach the game in that manner. Furthermore, the player can choose to manually hit every shot for more accuracy. The game runs smoothly, and the controls are very fluid. Plus, there are no graphical hiccups to speak of. All of the characters have unique attributes, and play significantly different. The courses are also all wildly varied, aside from the the first two, which end up feeling too easy and bland once the player puts 5+ hours into the game. And that's my only complaint. I can understand having one very easy course, but the second one should have been more difficult. Despite that minor quibble, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour has stood the test of time, and is my second favorite video game ever made, closely behind TMNT: Turtles in Time for the SNES.

I am going through some of the classic Mario sports games after the multiple modern disappointments. This game is fantastic. It builds on everything that was established in Mario Golf 64, which was already exceptional. I appreciate how they didn't try to reinvent the formula, they just did everything they could to enhance it, and they did it wonderfully. While I think the courses are fantastic and add a nice variety, I feel like they could have added more. That was probably the biggest disappointment for me. The variety of characters is nice without too many fillers. The variety of game modes is great. My biggest gripe with it is that the tournament mode follows a predetermined scoresheet, so you aren't technically competing against any CPUs, you're always shooting for the same score. Once I realized what was happening I was very disappointed there. Otherwise, its fantastic. Plenty of modes to keep you busy, but greatly enhanced when playing with other players.
I consider this to be one of the best arcade golf games.

After playing a lot of Mario Kart, Smash Bros., and Mario Tennis on my Gamecube, I went on the lookout for another fun multi-player excursion. I came across Mario Golf and decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience.
The main problem with "Toadstool Tour" is that it lacks energy and excitement. Every hole seems exactly the same...blast the ball a few times and then fiddle around with the putting. There seem to be no "cool secret moves" or new things to discover.
Not helping matters are the shoddy controls. Putting from short range is an exercise in frustration that immediately turned me off to the whole experience (kind of turned it into a button-mashing frenzy).
This one will not stay in my collection alongside the previously mentioned Mario multi-players.

This game is nowhere near as good as its predecessor on the N64. The controls change on you all the time, the music is mostly poor, The courses, characters, and music lack the charm and feel of Mario Golf 64, and the game becomes absurdly broken with importing super long hitting clubs from the Mario Golf Advance Tour Game Boy Advance game. These super long hitting clubs make scoring an Albatross/Double Eagle (The hardest shot to get in all of Golf) much easier than a Hole in One. The exact polar opposite of Mario Golf 64 and real life.
