The gameplay is absolutely textbook in its design, and while a few of the games can be pretty entertaining, the sheer amount of variety is far too small.
  2. Despite cramming in a respectable amount of licensed material, weak minigames and a plodding pace mean this ship bilges on its anchor.
  3. I want to preface my statements that way, so that when I tell you how awful Pirate's Carnival is , maybe, just maybe, you'll believe me. [Sept. 2006, p.92]

If only the mini-games that you have to constantly play were more alluring.
  5. Pirates' Carnival isn't the buried treasure party-gamers have been looking for. It's more like the fool's gold of party games.
  6. If you and your friends are fans of the series, as popular as it is, Pirates Carnival would be a great way to kick back and have a friendly competition with each other. Those who are not familiar with the series or are a little older may not find the premise or even the gameplay itself all that interesting and not quite the party they were expecting.
  7. It's a good choice for punchy party fans. [Nov. 2006, p.87]
  8. Feels like another "phone-it-in" anime game. The mini-games are boring, the Captain events feel tired and generic, and there's no replay value to be found.
  9. Kids probably won't mind much, and they're definitely the target audience here. Pirates' Carnival isn't spectacular in any one sense, but the solid mini-games and well-used license are enough to put it near the top of the distinctly uncompetitive party game genre.
  10. If you need a break from "Mario Party," this is a good place to start.
