Challenged by a few technical issues (especially on the GameCube) and held back because of its repetition, it might not grab as many audiences as Namco hopes -- Even if it is mindless, good-looking fun.
  2. Starts out pretty good, but ultimately falls prey to repetition and nasty camera problems.
  3. Regardless of the game's inspiration, Armageddon is a mediocre action game that is carried only by its license.

A very standard beat 'em up/third-person shooter that has many of the elements you'd expect (minor upgrades between levels, slow-motion special power) and none that you wouldn't.
  5. A bit of a mishmash, not made any better by the ease of which you can wade through the myriad foes, or the rather drab and dreary (although perhaps intentionally so) graphics.
  6. A great action game and there is nothing else like it available on the GameCube. For fans of the Spawn franchise, Manson fans, or fans of Goth-horror in general, this is a no-brainer.
  7. If someone can combine the visuals of Spawn: Armageddon with the gameplay of the Dreamcast Spawn, then we may have something to be excited about.
  8. The game only lasts around four and a half hours. The replay value isn’t all that hot either, and the game is not completed unless it’s beaten on all three difficulty levels, totaling around fifteen total hours.
  9. The graphics are suitably dark and a helpful navigation system lets you know where to go and where you've been. [Feb 2004, p.151]
  10. GameCube owners beware as Armageddon has been reported to lock up frequently on that system. Lock up or no lock up, though, non-fans are looking at an attractive but typical third person action game.
  11. Simply not worth your time. The graphics are mostly bland and dull, the gameplay is enjoyable but neither long enough nor fun enough to keep you entertained for more than half an hour or so at a time.

It has a simplistic hand-to-hand fighting system, a jerky, broken camera, crappy, jarring level designs, and horrifically frustrating platforming elements. It pretty much just fails at emulating the combat-heavy action games that have inspired it, and you'll constantly remind yourself of this as you play.
  13. Spawn Armageddon is going to go down in the annals of gaming history as yet another licence squandered on a game which is unoriginal, uninspiring, and destined for the bargain bins. Disappointing.
  14. The action isn't bad - just appallingly generic. [Jan 2004, p.110]
  15. Looks and feels more like a retro offering than a new game.
  16. Boring, repetitive gameplay and bland visuals make up Spawn’s biggest missteps, while a formidable soundtrack keeps the game from being totally without merit.
  17. Not bad, but not real good either. [Dec 2003, p.81]
  18. Just feels like it needs something more. What the game gives you in terms of abilities is a great start but after a while may leaving you wanting more.
  19. It’s this unoriginality that hurts the game most. Spawn fans deserve more, and till this day, have not gotten a fair shake.

I think the game is sweet but they could still do the graphics a little better and the enemys more challenging. I am writing cause i am a spawn fan.

Mediocre at best. Good graphics, good sound track, average game play. I expected something that wouldn't remind me of my old (long gone) Mediocre at best. Good graphics, good sound track, average game play. I expected something that wouldn't remind me of my old (long gone) Sega Saturn. Till now I've loved every game NAMCO has produced. Just another McFarlane stab at keeping his baby alive. Full Review »
