100The sickest shooter this side of Xbox killer app "Halo."
-
80A very strong game! In fact it's one of the best available for the GC.
-
80A decent next phase for Turok.
-
To get the most out of the Turok experience, don't hesitate to go with the superior GameCube version. [Oct 2002, p.80]
-
If the developers concentrated on refining the action and devising even more creative ways to destroy, I would've loved Turok. [Nov 2002, p.133]
-
There are quite a few cleverly incorporated puzzles and intriguing level layouts for those that like to play with their thinking caps on, but TE still manages to pack in the action for those that like to run and gun.
-
75It is such a shame to see this game not live up to its full potential.
-
A solid title - but still, we would have loved to see a game that was less evolutionary and more revolutionary. [27 Sept 2002, p.89]
-
73Exactly how much the Turok series has evolved with this latest installment is debatable, but the game does provide a healthy dose of shooting lizards with big guns, and, in the end, that's why we play Turok.
-
70Lacking innovation, the repetitive gameplay will only appease fans of the series, but the multiplayer mode makes it worth a look.
-
69At times I was thoroughly amused, sniping enemies and causing mayhem, while at other moments I was frustrated and in a state of pure tedium.
-
The developers weariness with the franchise was accentuated by the drastic difference in quality between the flight and ground missions. The actual shooting in this FPS is only half complete, and it was greatly overshadowed by the in-game flying.
-
The first-person perspective viewpoint can be disorienting, especially with no map or radar feature. [Nov 2002, p.220]
-
It suffers from average-at-best graphics, questionable sound effect and voice-over quality and the longest load times of any GameCube game I've ever played.
-
60The final nitpick I will make is the load times. Dear god! They are easily over a minute. It's like the code for the game is being written on the fly between levels.
-
It's a shame that some poor game design choices mar an otherwise pretty game, one with potential and one that they clearly spent a lot of time on.
-
58Mediocre.
-
Perhaps Turok would have been more acceptable had it been released a few years ago, but the genre has, interestingly enough, "evolved" to the point where this game looks and plays downright primitive.
-
32Load times in the game are unbearable. It takes one full minute just to load the options menu. No joke...Turok Evolution screams two words: rush job.
