Its great controls, super-realistic physics and astounding graphics will leave you searching for a towel.
  2. 92
Its airtight control, breathtaking weather effects, and stunning wave complexity combine for an irresistible racing experience.
  3. It’s a great laugh in 4-player and the 1-player Championship mode is well tough to beat.
  4. Not only is it the most beautiful racing game we’ve seen since SEGA’s "Ferrari F355 Challenge," but it’s also more playable—amazingly—than "WaveRace 64."
  5. While not perfect, Wave Race: Blue Storm is the most accurate video game representation of water-based racing ever to be released.
  6. The Game Cube controller, while receiving some criticism when it was first announced, provides perfect button usage with WR.
  7. The levels are eerily familiar to the Nintendo 64 game. [Nov 2001, p.116]
  8. This game hit its peak on the N64, and while NST has done a great job at polishing and cleaning it so that it’s super tidy and sharp, it really doesn’t revolutionize the original title.
  9. Without the dramatic weather effects, this game would be teetering on slightly above average status.

It's not earth-shaking entertainment, but you'll have a damn good time.
  11. A poorly controlled game with hard-to-perform tricks can’t quite destroy one of the best looking water racers ever made.

A great game...But if you're looking for the best jet-skiing game this fall, keep an eye out for "Splashdown" for the PS2...it has the potential to smoke Blue Storm.

if you're willing to take the time to get over the initial awkwardness of steering, you're in for one of the freshest and most rewarding water racing experiences since the original "Wave Race."
  14. An undeniable blast to play..., [but] most of the tracks are just higher-poly versions of those in "Wave Race 64," and while they’ve been tweaked with new details and shortcuts, it still feels like a rehash. [Dec 2001, p.83]
  15. Depending on your gaming tastes and how much you played Wave Race 64, you will either love this game or think it is nothing more than a technology demo that showcases the graphical prowess of the GameCube and offers nothing that gamers haven't played before.

As much as I loved the game, I hated it. What could have been is just that... could have been. Is it recommended? No question about it.
  17. More waterways would've been welcome, but the various weather conditions can change each course considerably and most areas feature multiple shortcuts. [Nov 2001, p.142]
  18. With stunning graphics and realistic waves, Blue Storm will quench a player's thirst for quick racing excitement but may leave those looking for added depth high and dry.
  19. One disappointment here is the lame way that the tricks have been integrated...you never really need to do tricks. In fact, doing so often slows you down. You just don't get rewarded enough for pulling off the cool stuff.
  20. I can’t get past the touchy, unforgiving control that plagues the game. [Dec 2001, p.254]
  21. The steering feel[s] somewhat awkward at first as well as stiff. This to me interrupts the smooth control design of the original game and complicates it for no other reason than to be complicated.
