The radical changes permeated all aspects of U.S. culture: politics, music, fashion, movies - this decade began with the staid conservativism of the 1950's, and ended in a way few could imagine. In 1960 a charismatic senator from Massachusetts was elected president, and a new era was ushered in. The civil rights struggles of the 50's were beginning to boil over, and a conflict in the small Southeast Asian country of Vietnam was beginning to escalate. Through it all, the African-American blues music embraced by White America in the 50's was channeled through the U.K. into a new sound that changed the world, as a group of boys from Liverpool revolutionized pop culture. Women's rights also came to the forefront, as young ladies began to demand the same rights as men. This also translated into a sexual revolution, as the strict mores of the past developed into the free love that defined the decade. The pop culture from this groovy decade is too cool for one cat to describe, so download the app now, dig!
