Alien Breed is a throwback to simpler times that works just as well today as it did back on the Amiga-- possibly even better.

Rose-tinted glasses or not, Alien Breed stands the test of time whether you play the updated or 'classic' mode; an excellent shooter complete with genuine moments of tension that keep you coming back for more.

This is a classic slice of gaming that bodes very well for the future of Team17's back-catalog on iOS devices. The controls are solid, and the content has been ported with affection and respect for the original game.

I can't hide my love for Alien Breed even if the story isn't more advanced than that found in Doom, or other shooters.

The folks at Digital Application Design have done a great job of bringing this shooter classic to a modern platform, and those who enjoyed Alien Breed so many years ago will be pleased to see that the feel of the original has been well preserved in its journey 20 years forward in time.

All the content of the Amiga originals - plus some new levels - make this update a must-have for retro enthusiasts and twin-stick blaster fans alike. It's just disappointing that the two-player mode wasn't included.

Alien Breed was and still is very challenging dual-stick-action. Unfortunately the virtual sticks are not as accurate as needed to survive the tough enemies. Nonetheless even over 20 years after its debut Alien Breed is still cool.

While Alien Breed may have been ahead of its time 20 years ago, these days, I think players are going to be looking for just a little more.
