There are oddities, such as some cut-scenes being fully acted-out by quality artists and others relying on simple text, online connectivity requirements, and for the non-RPG player, it's definitely recommended to step through the guide every now and then to ease confusion

Bloodmasque is an unique and uncommonly addictive game. While some parts don’t work as well as they should, Bloodmasque succeeds in so many other ways that it can quickly suck you in.

Solid fighting, social gaming, a surprisingly awesome gimmick and a great vampire story is what you get with BloodMasque. Vampire hunting has never been this much fun.

Bloodmasque may not be a perfect game, but its fast combat, (mostly) appropriately-priced upgrades, and minimally-intrusive social networking all mesh together to create a tasty action game for any wannabe vampire hunter.

The option to add a custom photo face to the main character in BLOODMASQUE is a total gimmick, but the game said gimmick is attached to is actually pretty cool.

The whole package is tied together with some fang-tastic social features, including the ability to recruit your own pals into a three-strong hunter team. [Nov 2013, p.81]

Bloodmasque is a simplified but more "badass" version of Infinity Blade, sold at an unreasonably high price.
  8. Aug 12, 2013
Decisions made by Square Enix to keep Bloodmasque profitable are the same ones that keep it from being particularly fun.

It offers up a simple combat system that can easily be enjoyed in spurts, a captivating world, and a cheesy veneer that will have you laughing constantly at your ridiculous face in-game. But with the online requirement and microtransactions on top of the existing issues and premium price, it's a bit hard to recommend.

Bloodmasque's neat historical setting and photo-based wizardry can't cover up its derivative and repetitive combat system.
  11. Aug 7, 2013
Bloodmasque comes with some excellent graphics and sounds, but the action is simplistic and repetitive.
  12. Jul 26, 2013
Bloodmasque is a truly odd mish-mash of swipe-based action, social, and JRPG elements, but only its historical vampire lore is executed with any great conviction.
  13. Jul 25, 2013
The novelty of uploading your face into Bloodmasque is a lot of fun, but the enjoyment wears thin due to unreliable controls and repetitive action.
  14. Jul 29, 2013
Unless you like doing the same thing over and over, there’s no enjoyment, engagement, or entertainment to be drawn from Bloodmasque making it one to steer clear of.
