The bottom line is that if you are a boxing fan, and especially a Fight Night fan, Fight Night Champion is a must have app. The controls are outstanding, the boxer selection will please any boxing fan, and the ability to create your own boxer and start your own career is gold.

With fantastic presentation, great gameplay and an interesting touch control system EA have a real prize fighter of a game on their hands.

Featuring outstanding graphics, crisp sound, intuitive controls, and heart-pounding action, Fight Night Champion is easily the best boxing game on the iOS platform.

It's a game that can be played constantly due to the intuitive controls that have not been dumbed down for the portable world of gaming.

Without question, Fight Night Champion is the best boxing game on the App Store right now. EA nails the touch controls, giving players of all skill levels the tools needed to launch withering haymakers as well as block incoming punches.

    A knockout job. [June 2011, p.87]

Fight Night Champion delivers an excellent boxing experience, with a lot of moves you can perform by simply touching the screen, twenty champions to choose from and a deep, solid gameplay. The game lacks an online multiplayer mode, however, and the controls sometime don't work as they should do.

As a game that favors timing, patience, and well-placed attention over button-mashing controls and bull-headed behaviour, Fight Night Champion manages to deliver a knockout performance for gamers who'd rather polish their skills than throw fireballs and do crazy spin-kicks through the air.

I would say that EA has landed a knockout blow to the competition, but that would probably result in actual violence against my person, so I won't. Anyway, it's good. You should get it.

So if you like boxing games in general and enjoy iPhone games that you can use to kill some time on the bus with, then you really cannot go too wrong with Fight Night Champion.

Exhibition matches eventually get old, and Legacy lacks an addictive hook. For the money, though, Fight Night Champion is one of the most impressive iPhone games we've seen, and multiplayer (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth) should keep you punching for several hours, providing you find someone else with the game.

Had a chance to feature a true pocket-sized version of its console releases, but the iOS release lacks a lot of depth and fighting can feel more like a random brawl than a calculated fist-fight.

The best boxing game so far in my opinion. It might not be as fully featured as some of the competition, but as the old saying goes, it's 'quality not quantity' that matters. And with both great presentation and gesture controls this is the closest you'll get to big boy console boxing.

The game's sound is about what you'd expect, with announcers narrating the fight (albeit with a limited vocabulary) and meaty thumps, while the graphics are fairly good for the iPhone, though the limited facial expressiveness of fighters tends to result in some pretty goofy faces when the camera focuses on a fighter for a knockdown punch. Still, none of this gets in the way of the core gameplay, and can be pretty easily overlooked by someone who's eager to get at the punching.

All things considered, Fight Night Champion is well worth your time and money, provided that you're willing to adjust to the learning curve and you're looking for a fighting game that rewards persistence and technique over lightning-fast blitzkrieg victories and ridiculous special moves.
