No, Gunner Z won't change the zombie-shooter genre as we know it, but it's a solid entry that deserves a download, especially if you like watching black-and-white carnage fly. Destruction is still destruction, after all.

This is one of the most original shooters on iOS. Looks good and feels better, and even if the free-to-play model puts you off, it deserves a try.

A bit polarizing to say the least, the game starts off incredibly strong, with a delightfully spooky atmosphere and slick gameplay mechanics that just make it feel so good every time you pick off an enemy down the scope of your rifle. But once that first mission ends and the apocalyptic paywalls begin to set in, you’re going to start covering your eyes and hiding from this game for entirely different reasons.

Gunner Z has plenty of zombie-killing action, but does it ever get to be fun?
  5. Oct 16, 2013
Fun for a while, but the game gets bogged down in its own sense of greed.
  6. Oct 9, 2013
A dull shooter wrapped in an angry freemium model, Gunner Z is enjoyable for a while, but it soon fades.
  7. Oct 7, 2013
Gunner Z looks good, but that’s about all it has going for it making it one to steer clear of.
  8. Oct 15, 2013
Without the aggressive freemium baggage, Gunner Z would simply be a decent-looking run-of-the-mill zombie shooter. As it is, it's another showcase for the dangers of placing greed over good game design. Avoid.
