The game is at once incredibly simple to learn and play, but at the same time, that beautiful Lego-esque state of constant building, destroying, and rebuilding, always searching for that optimal configuration, is so satisfying.

Hot Springs Story brings an extremely deep experience through a simple and intuitive interface, ideal for novices. Obviously the game can soon become repetitive and predicatble, while the setting could not attract many western users, but there are a lot of improvements from Game Dev Story, like the ability to zoom in/out or play in landscape mode.

What the game lacks, though, is the self-referential humour that made GDS so adorable.

This lack of interactivity and interesting things to do really hurts Hot Springs Story.

  1. Disappointingly clunky and boring, especially so since it's from the developers of Game Dev Story, THE best game for iOS I have ever played. Hot Springs' interface is a bit too complicated for the small screens and the mechanics a little too Japanese to be instantly understood like GDS was. Expand
