The first iPhone game to make use of the Unreal Engine 3 gaming engine, Infinity Blade features stunningly-rich graphics, outstanding animations, robust music, intuitive controls, and some of the most exciting action we've experienced on our mobile device.

Infinity Blade is beautiful, gripping and intense. Most importantly, its creators delivered a console quality experience in your hands, so while it's a wonderfully designed and thoroughly enjoyable brawler, this title also stands out as a killer app, the type of thing that solidifies Apple's iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch as legitimate contenders to the portable gaming throne.

It's the kind of deep, well-thought-out combat system that puts most console sword fighting to shame, and it's still only part of what makes this one of the easiest recommendations I'll make all year. You might find games that are a more perfect fit for the platform, but in terms of recreating a console-level experience on the iPhone, you simply will not do better than Infinity Blade.
  4. Jan 28, 2011
Infinity Blade is by its very nature a game with a narrow scope, but within those limits it's a beast of gameplay, visuals and execution; this isn't just a pretty face, it's a seriously fun game to master.
  5. Jan 28, 2011
Infinity Blade is a turning point for iOS gaming. Epic has proven that Apple's popular mobile devices are capable of much more than what we've previously seen, and since they're now licensing their engine out for other developers to use, we're going to start seeing a lot of other games with with Infinity Blade's level of polish.

But if you look past the pretty fluff and the shiny-ness of your new toy, you'll find that Infinity Blade is really just the same thing over and over again. BUT, that same thing over and over again is oddly appealing… somewhat like the "same thing over and over again" mechanism of Fruit Ninja, Flight Control, etc. And for that reason, there's really no other rating for this than the Must Have.
  7. Jan 28, 2011
Infinity Blade is a stunner on many levels. It's not a big game, but it's a great one.
  8. Jan 28, 2011
Infinity Blade turns the traditional RPG on it's head, and although I admit that it may not be for everyone, for me it is one of the best game on the iOS thus far, and it's just getting started.

Delivers in spades. It reminds me of a more constrained Shadow of the Colossus, which is quite the compliment. For anyone who owns a 3rd or 4th generation iOS device this is an essential purchase.
  10. Mar 11, 2011
Without doubt, my favourite iPhone game of 2010, and the best use of touchscreen controls I have ever played with.
  11. Jan 28, 2011
Despite the control flaws and the repeating levels, there is a world of good fun here. You can easily pick this up, fight a foe in a few minutes, and go back to work and still feel like you accomplished something.
  12. Jan 28, 2011
Infinity Blade is a brand new game with an old style mechanic. Repetition is its core, as you try, death after death, generation after generation, to kill a God King and his bruisers. With never seen before visuals for a portable device, very intuitive controls and an affordable price, if you have an iPhone or and Ipad you must buy this game.
  13. Jan 28, 2011
Successful iPhone games must offer quick, satisfying gameplay and an addictive quality to keep you coming back. Infinity Blade masters both, with short combat segments and a satisfying loop of self-improvement and challenge.
  14. Jan 28, 2011
An achievement on multiple levels, Infinity Blade is an engrossing game that should be recognised for its gameplay as much as its graphics.
  15. Apr 12, 2011
    Quotation forthcoming.
  16. Jan 28, 2011
Thankfully, Infinity Blade doesn't rest on its good looks. Sure, it's not a massive, open-world, but instead a tightly guided series of intense battles coupled with some seriously addictive character progression.
  17. Jan 28, 2011
An expert slice of role-playing goodness, with impressive depth and a novel control system.
  18. Jan 28, 2011
It's not perfect, but overlooking some repetitive play and the occasional frame rate hiccup, Infinity Blade is a huge step towards real core gaming on Apple's platform.
  19. Jan 28, 2011
From hyper-detailed visuals to the superb soundtrack, the game's production values set a new standard for iPhone games.
  20. Feb 28, 2011
Visually and acoustically pleasing, easy to control and with a future update bringing a multiplayer mode, Infinity Blade is incredible. This is one iPhone game you need to have. Whatever you do, don't skip the end credits.
  21. Jan 28, 2011
Infinity Blade is but a series of endless duels in the same environments. Once you figure that out, it does undermine its promise, but even though the battles can get repetitive, the combat system is deep enough to enjoy. It's a good game, because it was designed for nomadic use, and with this low pricepoint, it's exactly what iOS users could be asking for.
  22. Jan 28, 2011
As we wait for the first of the promised updates, then, there's plenty of reason to hope that this is the beginning, after all –the beginning of something rather special.
  23. Jan 28, 2011
So get it. Get it because it's ferociously satisfying, well designed and well executed. Get it because it easily reaches far greater heights than a mere tech show-off. In fact, it's so much fun I didn't even feel the need to mention Unreal Engine 3 once. Except there. Damn.
  24. Jan 28, 2011
Incredible, stunning, mouth-watering graphics. And a decent game underneath!
  25. Jan 28, 2011
Whether you're playing on a Touch, iPhone, or iPad, Infinity Blade marks the unequivocal next generation of iOS games.
  26. Jan 28, 2011
A technical showpiece, more than anything else, on how little bit of creativity can make simple, entertaining and innovative games. Only if it had been longer!
  27. Jan 28, 2011
Sure, in terms of the core gameplay (that being combat) you don't actually do a whole lot. You swing, dodge and cast the odd spell every now and again, and that's about the crux of it. However, the experience wrapped around these mechanics gives the game an alarmingly addictive nature.

If anything, it showcases exactly how successful more traditional games can be on Apple's products, and we should fully expect the floodgates to open. [Issue#105, p.114]
  29. Jan 28, 2011
Infinity Blade is certainly a demonstration of all the power that Apple platforms hide. Fantastic graphics, animations and sound to match, with a pinch of gore. As I mentioned, some will find the experience frustrating, others may find it a good challenge with an uncompromised gameplay.
  30. Jan 28, 2011
Not just a tech demo, but a cleverly designed time waster that creates an absorbing challenge out of its apparently limited mechanics.
  31. Mar 29, 2011
Infinity Blade as it stands now is simply an intriguing test of a very promising technology. I'm not sure that you'll get your $6 of fun from Infinity Blade, but if you want to impress your friends, this is the app to buy.
  32. Mar 2, 2011
No matter how much the games dresses things up, the endless battles get repetitive after a while. You're performing the exact same moves throughout the game.

Really. All of it you just fights the foes in the uninteresting batlle, and each 5 mins you begin the game again again and again. It's not a game. It's just silly test of ue3. Full Review »
