If bringing the law to the denizens of an ultra-violent future city isn't your thing, Countdown Sector 106 probably isn't the gamebook for you. For everyone else, this is an absolute blast to read. With their latest release, Tin Man Games have proven that they can handle existing characters just as well as they do heroes of their own creation.
Getting to the bottom of the countdown mystery in Mega City One is great fun, for those with the patience for a well-told story. [Nov 2012, p.91]
Gamers who can't stand reading should probably stay away, but for everyone else, Judge Dredd is great stuff.
As an adventure game book, Judge Dredd: Countdown Sector 106 succeeds very well and I suspect Judge Dredd fans will adore it all the more.
If you've never played a gamebook, Judge Dredd: Countdown Sector 106 is an entertaining, brilliantly designed introduction to the world of dice and bookmarks.
Gamebook fans will probably enjoy playing Judge, Jury, and Executioner in this tale set in the popular dystopic comic property, but it carries many of the failings of the genre and casual players will probably either find the game too slow paced or the content too violent.
The humor hovers on that level, a mix of pop-culture references, tough guy 'tude and "Jackass" worthy stunts. Maybe that, combined with shooting punks and rudeboys, coshing juves, and riding a AI motorcycle equipped with machine guns and a laser, is enough.
