KnightScape might not win over fans of truly "hardcore" runners and fighters, but anyone looking for a less intense good time should enjoy themselves. Especially if they love both those things. I know I do.

The amount of backtracking required is enough to hang up progress, making KnightScape feel more like a leisurely stroll than a gallant knight on a brisk run.

KnightScape ends up inhabiting a weird space where neither the course-running nor the combat really grab you on their own, yet they don't necessarily combine like Voltron to kick butt either. There are a number of mobile games where you can see what the developers were trying for clearly enough to lament when they don't make it there, and this feels like one of them.

It shows some very interesting attempts on IOS such as entirely 3D worlds characters and animated sword fights. The art style is pleasant and while the gameplay may seem simple, they are quite addictive and challenging later on. I've enjoyed playing through all levels. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This fun free iOS game combines the running and dodging elements of other games like Temple Run, but then adds in some sword fighting. I'll be honest, I have like 10 runner games on my device at the moment. They are all cut/paste models. The leg up that KnightScape has is this fighting element. It helps the game avoid the dreaded "I'm bored of the repetitive running" factor that so many other games suffer from.

The "freemium" model used in this game rewards you for playing more, but I was still coaxed into spending a few of my iTunes dollars on a few swords and shields. I highly recommend this title if you are bored of the 1000s of runner titles and want a new element added. Also, who doesn't want to fight a 3 headed dragon on an adventure to save a princess?
