Jan 17, 2013I have been waiting for a Zelda style game on iPad that utilizes the native touch input for far too long. Well I finally got that in Ku: Shroud of the Morrigan which is a pretty nice first attempt from Irish based bitSMITH games. Ku is a contemporary retelling of a classic Irish legend called The Tain and tells the story of a young boy named Ku (based on the Irish hero, Cuchulain) who must journey out into a semi-futuristic, celtpunk Ireland to reclaim a stolen power source and defeat an evil sorceress called The Morrigan.
The game is great for a mixture of reasons. I mean, don't get me wrong ... it's flawed. There are some technical niggles here and there and it show's it's Indie colours on its sleeve but for all of the above it's still an incredibly good first effort and one of the better Action RPG's on the iPad to date.
The game sports a reasonable length for its asking price, sporting a fun minigame which I wish could be played standalone after completing the game. Ku is the type of game that deserves more attention than it may inevitably receive which is sad. Games and developers like this need to be applauded for showing strong ambition and crafting games which break the traditional mould in a number of ways.
Check Ku out if you've always wished there was a Zelda title on the iPad.
