The experience of the first LostWinds has been left unaffected, with a perfect balance between gameplay, graphics and sound. The sequel is even better: it may lack the original sense of wonder, but anyway it delivers a fun and rewarding experience, as it requires both mental effort and a good eye to pad coordination. This with a technical compartment which stands tall, due to the magnificent design and a enchanting melodies. Frontier has delivered another gem, the best WiiWare title and one of the better for the Wii.
The gorgeous visuals and music, along with the finely tuned motion controls and cheap price point make Winter of the Melodias a guaranteed purchase that is anything but a load of hot air.
Frontier Development has once again managed to demonstrate WiiWare's incredible potential. LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias is in fact an excellent game, capable of building on its predecessor strengths while solving many of its issues. A must buy for any Wii owner out there.
It's a tightly designed adventure, in other words, and although I'm not willing to mention Winter of the Melodias and its season-switching intricacies in same breath as Link to the Past, Frontier's game certainly makes a decent My First Metroid, bringing the environment and Toku's powers together in a series of clever set-pieces while the map grows ever busier as his agility increases.
Winter of the Melodias is better and more complete than the first LostWinds, even more unique and poetic; fortunately it's still short, as every haiku should be.
The perfect candidate for the 100th WiiWare game, LostWinds is on the verge of outgrowing the service it almost single-handedly redeems. [Dec 2009, p.101]
It’s a more enjoyable and slightly more challenging game than the first, and it’s perfectly suited to the system and to the typical Wii demographic.
