Another pseudo-builder from Game Insight, Paradise Island puts the player in the position of developing an island tourist resort, placing hotel and entertainment venues, managing the result, and making money. All in all, a solid and decent premise; after all, many games have been built along these lines (including another builder with the same name released on iOS). Unfortunately, the Game Insight model hasn't changed, and it alone puts a major dent in what could otherwise be an enjoyable game. In order to progress at any reasonable pace, it's practically a requirement to spend in-game premium cash, purchased with real cash through IAP. This premium cash isn't cheap, and you're encouraged to spend it pretty lavishly because the alternative is VERY slow grinding for money. Progress without premium cash is a trickle, and it drags the game down. Graphics are nothing special, particularly when one considers what an iPad Retina display can do. Sound is average, even by iPad standards. No, overall gameplay was left aside in favor of giving the player as many opportunities and reasons as possible to buy premium cash. I'd like to like this, I really would, but I can't. I will, however, say that this game is nowhere near as pushy as another Game Insight title, My Country, when it comes to trying to get your money. (Of course, many muggers aren't as pushy about getting your cash as My Country.) Five out of ten for the Paradise Island would-be cash cow. Expand
