Another caveat is that while the game does run on an iPhone, I would not recommend that anyone with adult hands play it on anything but the iPad. There is too much going on, both visually and with the controls to cram it on to the iPhone's screen.

The sooner Gameloft stops wasting its considerable resources making console-lite games and starts figuring out how to make the most out of mobile platforms, the better. Like 9mm, Silent Ops is gaming at its most clueless and uninspired.

We can appreciate spy action as much as the next guy, but the lack of depth and overall polish to the controls and mission variety make this a hard game to get behind.

Engaging to a certain degree, Silent Ops has all the flaws you'd expect from an overambitious mobile title. If you can ignore the lack of polish, then it offers up a fairly decent ride - just don't expect any surprises.

Silent Ops is a short, inconsistent and derivative stealth/action game that doesn't match the quality of some other similar Gameloft productions, and it's really hard to recommend even to the lovers of the genre.

There are far better titles than this one, some even published by Gameloft itself.

It won't make you feel like James Bond, but at least you get to kill lots of nameless bad guys.

Taken for what it is, Silent Ops is a competent, if somewhat lacking action title, but it won't fulfill your cravings for espionage and intrigue.

A decent game. Unfortunately, that feels like a colossal letdown after things start off, if only because the production values imply that it's going to be so very much more. It looks and sounds amazing, so it's a shame that it doesn't play amazing, too.

Silent Ops is too linear and simple, lacking in gameplay complexity and giving players a mild gaming experience.

Silent Ops is a good, though unremarkable third person shooter that lacks the extra level of polish to put it over the top.

Every facet of Silent Ops - be it the action, controls, graphics and presentation, it's online offering and most importantly it's gameplay - they all have one thing in common, and that's that they have all been done far better before.

    Quotation forthcoming.

A playable spy B-movie for the handheld that doesn't quite live up to the standard Gameloft usually presents. Check out 9mm instead.

While we really wanted to enjoy this offering as much as the plethora of quality shooters that Gameloft has released over the past couple of years, the horrendous AI, odd storyline, and surprisingly spotty controls drain most of the fun and excitement out of it.

Without a doubt, Silent Ops is a great game. If you're a fan of spy and secret agent games, you'll surely enjoy this title.

Silent Ops is an action game that very much follows in the Gameloft mould, and therefore benefits from expected qualities but also suffers from flaws, namely AI problems and restrained playability, which aren't helped when combined with unspectacular visuals. At least the narrative remains engaging throughout, even if the game's characters lack charisma.
