Star Marine: Infinite Ammo isn't perfect, but it's such a gorgeous, amazing retro shooter that you'd be doing yourself a disservice by passing it up.

Star Marine: Infinite Ammo is a 'classic' shooter in almost ever sense of the phrase; its design philosophy may bring back the challenging and fun over the top insanity of the days of old, but it also brings back an Arcade-like brutality that rewards memorization over skill.

Star Marine: Infinite Ammo satisfies the need for an arcade style shooter on the iPhone, delivering all the big guns, nasty bad guys and the grizzled hero one would expect. With that, grab that Ion Torch and come out firing.

Despite this gripe, Star Marine: Infinite Ammo offers up a fun and action packed ride. It's a worthy addition to any iOS gamers' library, particularly if you yearn for those 16bit action-platformers from the Super Nintendo and SEGA MegaDrive days.

There is a lot that I would change about Star Marine: Infinite Ammo, particularly to make it more in line with the games that inspired it, but what's here is rather intriguing and fun. Flawed, but there is fun to be had.

Featuring dual-stick controls, big boss battles, and plenty of enemies to destroy, Star Marine is a fun addition to the genre.

Tough controls and an IAP system too intrusive are just two of the problems that spoil an otherwise good but far from stellar game.
