A fine port of the classic Wii/PS3 on rails shooter, but the fact that it is mandatory to pay twice to get the total stuff really sucks.

House of the Dead: Overkill - the Lost Reels is short but instantly playable. It's a very cut down version of a much loved game and doesn't offer much in the way of longevity, but with some clever controls and replayability thanks to the focus on score attack it's still worth a look for fans of lightgun games.

The House of the Dead: Overkill – The Lost Reels ($4.99, Universal) is a bland, and repetitive shooter that doesn’t deliver anything that’s truly noteworthy or enjoyable. The title is longer than the actual gameplay, making it one to skip.

The Lost Reels seems to tell us just one thing: there’s nothing more appropriate for this kind of games than a good friend and a couple of light guns. With oversimplified control system and poor contents, it’s far from being the “real” mobile incarnation of the cult game we played on Wii and PlayStation 3.

If House of the Dead Overkill: The Lost Reels had a little more zombie meat on on its bones, I’d be telling you to fire up the App Store and download it right away. As it stands, I’d say it’s best to wait for a sale ($2.99 would be a good price), or to go back and purchase either the Wii or PS3 version.

The Lost Reels is a pale shadow of the original, but it does a decent job with what little it's been given.

The House of the Dead: Overkill - The Lost Reels remains a decent virtual light gun game that translates pretty well to iPad, but its graphics haven't aged well and the IAP system is an unwelcome addition.

It pains us to give a game like House of the Dead such a low score, but it’s just so short and quick that the game ultimately isn't worth it.

If you are in the mood for some hyper-violent arcade action, you may enjoy The Lost Reels. I found that the game lacked any real comedic edge, something that the Wii version appears to have. Considering that the primary selling points of the Overkill games are their intentionally overbearing violence and comedy, I would consider The Lost Reels a weak successor to the original game.
