Free to play titles usually offer a cute looking game with an empty shell, but The Lone Ranger, amidst all that brush and beauty, actually shows us how the West was won.

For people who can't get enough of the movie, The Lone Ranger is worth a quick look. Just don't expect to stick around for too long. The repetitive gameplay and lack of excitement don't do this Ranger any favors.

There is honestly no reason to play this game.

With some impressive visuals (for a mobile game), fun shoot-outs, and unique gameplay, this is one that I believe will prove to be worth the download for more than just fans of the movie. Even better is the fact that micro-transactions can be completely ignored. However this does mean there will be a waiting period while you wait for things like health and energy to restore, but I found it to be hardly an issue at all.

The only issue I had with the game is that the one-on-one duels against the AI can be extremely difficult, almost to the point of being unfair. What makes it worse is that leveling up and collecting better gear doesn't help, because these enemies scale up with you. This means it will take you longer than it should to get through the game's story (yes, it has a story). Still it is hard to find too much fault with the game when you're shooting bad guys with a tap of your fingers during one of the on-rails shooting sections that are an absolute blast.

Overall it's a great game. It doesn't exploit it's free-to-play system, and all of the parts come together well. It does fall into some of the tropes that many other mobile games do, such as the fact that the majority of side-quests are just energy drainers that require nothing more from you than pushing a button on-screen, but I did find myself enjoying the game a lot. This is one free trip to the west that is actually worth taking.
