Aside from some quirky animations and a tendency for the camera to feel like it's sliding around too much, The End is exactly what fans of the original Temple Run deserve when it comes to a competitor in the scene. For some the original will always remain the best, but if you want something different or you enjoy something with a bit more bite, this is the game for you.

Considering the large number of Temple Run spin-offs that have spawned on the App Store, it is nice to see that some developers know how to put their own spin on things.

We definitely recommend TheEndApp for Temple Run fans looking for something a bit different. We just wish more thought went into the missions and plot, but as far as free iOS games go, we can't think of a better way to embrace mankind's destruction.

Tied down by its rigid adherence to the endless-running formula, TheEndApp isn't a bad example of the genre, but it's one you've played before.

It's tough to give TheEndApp a hard time about its striking similarities to Temple Run. On one hand, a good deal of its gameplay mechanics are simply derivatives made popular by the popular endless runner. On the other hand, there's a reason why that combination works so well. TheEndApp deserves at least some credit for recreating the experience and, more importantly, doing it well.

The End also shoots itself in the foot by tying challenges and duct tape rewards quite tightly to payment hoops or forced social broadcasting.
  7. Jul 10, 2012
It feels too derivative. What's there is fun but there's nothing about the game that makes it stand out amongst its rivals. Sure, the challenges are fun but it doesn't really add variety to the experience. For those desperate for a change of scenery, it might entertain. For everyone else, stick with Temple Run.

The End is a well-made clone of Temple Run, but it adds some of the worst tricks in social gaming.
