I really like the look and feel of Volcano Escape. It's extremely pretty and the time pressure can be fun.
Its combination of play mechanics from various genres is beautifully executed, its challenge is immense, and it's got just a whole lot of personality.
Volcano Escape often runs into trouble when you want to mix shooting, jumping and firing.
Volcano Escape by itself is definitely worth the $1.99 its developers are charging for it, but the optional in-app purchases are definitely overpriced. Still, if you don't mind being locked out some of the game's content, you won't miss out on much.
Volcano Escape is certainly cute, but it's also clunky and frustrating at times. It's good, but not great. This is one of those titles that feels like it's on the verge of realizing its potential, but it isn't quite there yet.
Decent graphics and a fun, unique idea aren't enough to keep Volcano Escape above the rising flow of lava and you're likely to be burned by this challenging endless vertical platformer.
At the end of the day, the sloppy controls and other issues prevent Volcano Escape from being a must play, even at $1.99. Cut it loose.
