  • Summary: For a marine mammal, the hedgehog spends a disconcerting amount of time on land. What do they want, what are they up to?Hedgehogs are troubled spirits, and yet, they never fail to entertain the masses with their acrobatic feats. Many people don't know, however, that hedgehogs aren't born this way. Hedgehogs need to be trained and molded into the tiny, fiscally responsible acrobats we know and love. That's where you come in. Train your hedgehog in more than 40 challenges and keep his cunning mind from veering. We will give you a sensible amount of ropes (11) and 6 special powers. Crash those orbs as fast as you can, collect those stars and keep track of your performance with built-in stats. We will even let you tweak the rope physics, because we're not just accomplished scientists, we're also human. You might encounter detailed animation along the way. But don't fall for it. It's designed to fool you into empathy. Expand

This game is more obfuscating than it is complex, and while its disparate elements made me want to like it, playing it did a lot to dissuade me in an immediate fashion.

Wide Sky isn't without the ability to be redeemed, but in its current state the game comes off as mundane at best, and frustratingly counter-intuitive at worst.

Wide Sky is a decent puzzler as it stands, but needs improvement in the motion control department to flourish.

Wide Sky is a very difficult game for the wrong reasons. The structure is sound and the presentation is above and beyond, but the gameplay is lacking. The potential is there for this to be a major hit, but an update is needed to sort out the control issues. If that happens, I can’t wait to come back and enjoy this game. Until then, I’m not inclined to revisit it any time soon.

Eckert's game is too exasperating for a recommendation, but it's an interesting failure nonetheless. One of the best-looking and most chic indie titles of the past 18 months, it's evidence of a keen artistic talent - albeit one that needs pairing with more scrupulous game design in order to fully blossom.

As gorgeous as it looks, and as clever as it sounds, Wide Sky plays like a mess.
  7. Feb 27, 2013
Wide Sky is one you can swing far away from as frustration seems to be the overall take away despite how good it looks on the surface.
