Feb 21, 201295ZiGGURAT succeeds where past action-based iPhone games have failed because the developer put the proper attention on balance and controls instead of unlockables and multiple backdrops.
-
Mar 7, 201290ZiGGURAT doesn't need extra modes or tons of unlockable content to be addictive, because it's just fun, manic and full of brilliant game design ideas.
-
Mar 3, 201290A refreshing blast from the past, an endless shooter that gives you a gun and a simple task, survive as long as you can. No frills, no tricks, and pure fun.
-
Mar 1, 201290My favorite thing about Ziggurat is that it dismantles the hardcore-casual myth that has so long plagued videogame culture generally, and iOS gaming specifically. An "endless" shooter with Peggle controls doesn't make for good advertising, but Ziggurat is a game that forces its players to pay attention, to process and react to constantly shifting situations, to do the (literally) impossible.
-
Feb 27, 201290For a game with a premise as simple as kill the aliens before they kill you, Ziggurat's stylishly retro visuals, gleeful arcade precision and deeply interlocking mechanics trigger a chain reaction that kicks off like some interstellar combustion. Not the sound of a world ending. But the sort of bang that would make Richard Dawkins lean back, fold his arms and grin like a chimp.
-
Feb 23, 201290Factor in addictive chiptunes music and those aforementioned graphics, and ZiGGURAT will quickly become a guilty pleasure, one that is well worth your time and dollar.
-
Apr 3, 201285It's hugely addictive high-score chasing stuff. [Apr 2012, p.93]
-
Apr 12, 201280It's bleak, but very fun, with a killer soundtrack. [May 2012, p.29]
-
Mar 30, 201280Featuring great pixel art, a challenging one-finger control scheme, and a hefty dose of difficulty, ZiGGURAT simultaneously frustrates and delights.
-
Mar 30, 201280A retro-shooting game that offers an incredibly well balanced, yet simple gameplay.
-
Mar 21, 201280Ziggurat deserves a prize for betting in retro hardcoreaction with the control schemes for casual gamers. It is something unique and different.
-
Mar 5, 201280Simple and straightforward, but only the most dedicated players can best the arcade gauntlet that has been thrown down by this title.
-
Feb 27, 201280Yes, there is only one game mode, and there's nothing to unlock or achieve, but this is one of those games that drives you to play it without any quirky gimmics. It's insanely easy to pick up and play when you have literally a minute or two to spare, and the mysterious stats page really makes me wonder what I will discover if I can stay in the game for just a few more seconds than last time.
-
Feb 27, 201280The music, art, and depth of gameplay are all fantastic, but I just never got all that comfortable with it.
-
Feb 27, 201280A compelling, never-ending shooter, ZiGGURAT turns the high score chase into a two dimensional art form.
-
Mar 3, 201275While it's not for everyone, if you're willing to take the abuse, you'll have a blast trying to survive the apocalypse.
-
Mar 20, 201270Missile Command for the iOS generation. It succeeds in matching that arcade simplicity and yet feels designed chiefly around the efficiency of Apple's portables.
-
Mar 8, 201260Quotation forthcoming.
