It is advertised as being online. Maybe it was 3 years ago. I see posts in Forums where it has not been working online internet service by Playlogic or atari since 2006. So where are the games I ask?

Being a big fan of Bethesda's Pirates of the Caribbean i was really looking forward to the release of this game. But there was so much wrong with this game that i took it back to the store for a refund a couple of days later and went back to POTC.

This game is a total insult. The bugs and problems with the programming in this game are not just technical issues but a clear sign that this company has made no quality control effort at all. everything from crashes, strange bugs or the fact that they have not even bothered to finish putting in the main storyline missions. You will find you ships holds totally overloaded for no reason at all or you will find traders who's stores are too full and you cant trade goods. totally unplayable, should never have been released to retail in this state. which is sad because it shows some promise. Many many bugs big letdown the graphics are truly awsome and the same with geological layout such as vegetation and buildings. But the scripting is poor so many places you cannot go such as the bank, beaches and jungle's maybe im to much of a potc man, but it would improve the game significantly and so would a patch that would solve all bugs.

The short review is based upon the fact that after about 10 hours I haven't experienced a single bug or crash. This game is Sid Meyer's Pirates! with 50% more depth. The hand-to-hand isn't quite as fun as the Pirates minigame but the ship to ship combat is incredible. It's like reliving the set piece battles from Master and Commander each time you head into battle. Clive D is right though, the main plot seems to be broken. Thankfully the free-form gameplay is fun enough on its own. Expand

It is so frustrating that they have not recreated Sid Meyers Pirates! Every pirate game that has come out since was only better in that it had great graphics, other then that the games have been dumbed down. What happened to convoys? Marriage to the govs daughter, etc? And though the original was pixelated and you had to change out the huge floppy disks, the game was great and addictive. This one has so many bugs, crashes constantly, and is almost unplayable. Shame on you play logic for not beta testing and leaving out some of the best parts of the original pirate game! PS: For those Sid Meyer's Pirate addicts out there, it is now public domain and you can down load it simply by searching for it on Google for a free download! even plays in windows instead of DOS! 1. Tense, drawn-out battles ahoy! Combat at sea has never been such fun. [Sept 2006, p.96]
  2. From the unfriendly, baffling set-up screen, everything is unwieldy and cobbled together. [Oct 2006, p.79]

This game will make you want to spend your entire life at sea, watching the flowing waves, dodging water spouts, dueling with enemy ships, and plundering booty. The rest of the game, sadly, feels more like a chore than an adventure.
