  • Summary: Air Raid immerses you in a mind blowing, realistic battle simulation that features stunning 3D arcade shoot 'em up action. Air Raid thrusts you into the adrenaline-pumping, action packed world of a World War II battleship under enemy fire. The gamer finds himself stationed behind the awesome firepower of a 40mm Bofor Anti-Aircraft fixed deck gun on the bow of a battleship reminiscent of the famed U.S.S. Missouri. The mission is to blast away at the endless onslaught of enemy attackers hell bent on sinking the battleship. Honor, glory and pride are on the line, but the primary mission is simply to survive. 1. If you are a fan of the Beach Head games you will most definitely enjoy this title. Plain and simple just aim and fire that’s about it!
  2. 70
While the control and gameplay are dead on, the repetition and lack of story simply hurt.
  3. With a narrow vision of gameplay, total lack of any story or compelling drama to carry you through 99 missions it is a pure arcade experience that most PC gamers have evolved out of a long time ago.
  4. You have to be jonesing for a decidedly old school arcade experience to appreciate Air Raid, and even then, it's fun for maybe 20-30 minutes at a time, if not in total. [Nov 2003, p.101]
  5. While not a total disaster, [it] barely even offers cosmetic upgrades to the 2000 version's incredibly dull gameplay format. [Oct 2003, p.112]
  6. This is the style of arcade game that was around in mechanical form since the early 50s. It's just an on-rails shooter that never lets up. You never move from your position while shooting down swarms of Japanese aircraft with your AA gun. It's so easy to play it's ridiculous.
  7. 22
Such a totally pointless, antiquated, poor excuse for an on-rails shooter it should be obliterated from the annals of history by a magical force.

The game is very simple and repetitive and offers a plenty of an action to get you addicted.

Who ever gave 22 for rating must be insane. The review should based on its genre and what you get for 19 bucks. I really think it deserves more. Anyway, if you like first person shooter arcade type games, you can't miss it. It offers a great blend of combat and some economic strategy. I am very surprised that this game has not been given more press. Expand
