This iteration is good enough to make Matt holler with delight, but the action seems to have been turned up to a frantic pace. [Oct 2002, p.93]
I imagined many cool innovations in terms of gameplay - and let me tell you, I found only a few. But then, sometimes I have a vivid imagination and it's a shame that this expansion pack cannot fulfill even the slightest portion of it.

An expansion pack, that deserves attention for those who enjoyed the Aliens vs. Predator 2 game. The storyline reveals even more of an already interesting and fascinating story of the game. Only this time, we'll find out what happened long before the events in the main game.
This time we have three new characters. Ancient Predator has even more new weapons, but they are mostly useless. Dunya is a member **** of mercenaries called the Iron Bears, who are the bad guys in the main game's story. She also has new weapons available in addition to what was in the main game. The game also provides a unique opportunity to take on the role of Predalien - a monstrous hybrid of an Alien and a Predator with its own advantages and disadvantages.
New game locations are now available for us to explore. The gameplay is sometimes too long and consists of confronting huge waves of Aliens. It's often a good idea to just ignore the enemies and run headlong from point A to point B. But overall, the expansion turned out to be good and quite interesting.

Boring, stale, frustrating, and plain, Primal Hunt tarnishes the good AvP name and pulls us further out into a cartoonish and overtly straightforward sea.
This expansion seems to ignore most of what was good in the original and instead concentrate on fast-paced, frustrating, and nearly mindless action.
Primal Hunt is going to take the Best Blueballs award for not delivering on what could have been a great expansion. [Nov 2002, p.118]
Offering no new gameplay styles, limited map enhancements, and unorthodox NPC AI, Aliens vs Predator 2: Primal Hunt seems to be just that, a primal update to an excellent storyline driven series.
First off the Solo Missions, suck. There is no suspense like in the first, and just jumps into BORING action.
Aliens franchise is strong enough to beat things like this expansion pack and sequels like Alien versus predator and colonial marines; in fact only the first 2 games are worth ****'s see what's going to happen with Alien **** it gonna be a classic or another expendable adventure? Let's see...

When a studio that has nothing to do with original game's success desperately tries to expand a universe, such bad games as "Primal Hunt" happen. This expansion in any way can't be called a good pack. AVP 2 by Monolith was a perfect game that introduced various original scenarios that years since walkthrough leave good memories. Thing I do remember about "Primal Hunt" is that it was extremely short (only 3 levels for each species), boring and not original. Yes, there could be some more story told about events that took place in AVP 2, but this pack does not achieve this goal.

I am playing through this at the moment, and the Official reviews (GameSpy, PC Gamer) got it bang on. Lacks all the atmosphere from AvP2. I am interested in the back story, but I don't think I'll follow this through.
