  1. [Games Radar Rating = Direct Hit] AvP2 isn't a revolutionary game, but a collection of previously-seen elements, all put together seamlessly and balanced so well that it emerges as a rather beautiful Frankenstein's Monster.
  2. The most intense experience by far comes from the Marine plotline...The subtle musical score, accompanied by extended periods of pulse-pounding suspense, are punctuated by frenzied moments of sheer terror as you fight to stay alive. [Jan 2002, p.92]
  3. If you're looking for a great action game that has an extremely intense feeling to it and 30+ hours of gameplay (excluding multiplayer), then this game is for you.
  4. An intense, action-packed game that captures the spirit of the first-person shooter genre in heart-pounding fashion. It is a visual delight – if the blood and gore doesn’t bother you – and a real treat for the ears.
  5. The intriguing, interwoven campaign games are excellent, and give the game a different feel when played from the different perspectives of the three races featured in the game. They may be a little on the short side.

The utterly perfect soundtrack delivers exactly the mood you want, from the smooth coolness of the Predator’s snarl to the eerie silence of the Marine’s pinging motion tracker.
  7. It captures the atmosphere of the Aliens and Predator films perfectly, from the spot-on sound effects right through to the genuine feeling of actually being one of the starring species (pretentious as that may sound).
  8. There are a multitude of play modes, but even the straightforward deathmatch and team deathmatch games are a blast, thanks to the species structure. [Feb 2002, p.85]
  9. A solid shooter, certain to entertain any gamer looking for immersive gameplay, interesting characters and fluid action.
  10. Visually, the LithTech engine does a good job in powering the alien's claustrophobic wall-crawling movement and does a great job rendering the predator's many modes of vision.
  11. Yes, AVP2 lets you save anywhere...It's better than the original "Aliens vs. Predator," and it's one of the best action games released so far this year.
  12. If you're a FPS gamer looking for a game to make you jump off your seat a couple of times, or you just like to scare your (gullible) date with Predator sounds coming out your mighty subwoofer, AvP2 is the game for you.
  13. Better than the original one in just about every respect. [Holiday 2001, p.79]
  14. AVP2 is still scintillatingly scary. All of the trappings of the film licenses, like the ominous beeping of the marine motion tracker are included and done well.
  15. 83
Where the first AVP omitted continuity within the three stories, AVP2 intermix each storyline together. This makes playing each character dynamic and fluid.
  16. Although burdened by some flaws, AVP2 delivers three of the most unique gaming experiences ever and is a game no fan of fast-paced, in your face, brain-eating action should pass up.
  17. Don’t play this game at night. Really, it’s just a bad idea. I mean, unless you have Sigourney Weaver or Arnold Schwarzenegger sitting in the chair next to you with a flamethrower and a smile, you’re never going to get to sleep afterwards.
  18. 82
Entertaining and terrifying at the same time, even with all of the annoying bugs. It still comes recommended in its current state, but after a patch or two, AvP2 will be a must-have for any shooter fan.
  19. Terrific music and sound effects make this one of the best-sounding computer games released this year. Human screams and primal alien/predator screeches are done very well.
  20. A hit and miss game. It has created an eerie atmospheric world which will have you shaking in your boots as you play this game. The story line is brilliant and the graphics add to the awesome 3D world it’s set in.
  21. With it’s own unique cast of characters, it has managed to provide a fun experience without innovating the FPS genre or even its own franchise.
  22. The textures and models are very nicely done as it puts and molds you into a realistic distant future type period.
  23. With some character issues from the first game still unresolved, and due to the short duration of play and unintelligent enemies, AVP2 is stopped short of being truly stellar. However, this is one of the best action titles of the year.
  24. 80
The marine single-player is exceptional and the multiplayer is very strong. The predator and alien single-player games just pale in comparison, but they don't detract from the other two.
  25. 80
Not only does AvP2 send chills down the spine, it also fuels the adrenaline with hyperkinetic action.
  26. A superior game in every way—action, design, graphics and overall presentation—and is one of the best (and bloodiest) pure action games of the year.
  27. 78
It doesn't expand the genre and it's got technical issues, but the Alien and Predator levels are a blast.

  1. An intriguing plot, haunting sound effects, brutal gameplay and explosive arsenal should be enough to draw you into one of the greatest game of the franchise, if you can forgive the aging graphics. Full Review »
  2. This game is one of the old gems that never really caught a massive following, likely due to the fact that it was based off some movie franchises and a lot of people (including myself) tend to avoid ANY game that is based off movies, but it just so happens that I was quite the aliens/predator fan. This game was fantastic, I would probably still play it if there were people online! Server support was cut a few years back I believe and you have to do something funky during startup to play online, but you still can. Either way, the single player experience, tons of fun, the marine campaign just inspires a sense of dread, you're always wondering when something will appear, and you frequently have to run like hell, even after beating the marine campaign multiple times, I never really get bored of it. The multiplayer is where this game is just top notch though, even though it was often plagued by hackers, the variety in weapons prompted people to always pick overpowered weapons, most of these things were solved by dedicated servers with good admins, and not only that but it was always fun, had tons of features, like, an unbelievable amount. All 3 races were highly enjoyable to play. The only reason I'm giving this a 9 instead of 10 is basically because of the complete and utter lack of balancing, easily overshadowed by how fun it is to simply play on a well maintained dedicated server, it only seldom caused frustration. Awesomely awesome!! Even after years of playing this game i still talk about it today. The terror of being a marine, whilst the cool midst of the predator action. Crawling along any wall possible with an Alien, makes this game a true work of art. Playing this alone at night draws you into the world of a marine, and its gotta be one of the most intense and scary FPS' to date. Full Review »
