  1. It’s been done before and it’s been done better.

Despite its many bugs and flaws, the game is still fun to play when it works. The combat is rather uninspired, but it serves to add to the atmosphere. The amount of frustration you'll find in the game should be noted, however.

Something that every fan of horror gaming in general--and the original Alone in the Dark series in particular--should check out.
  4. Suspense is what makes movies and games scary. Alone 4 is seriously lacking this important attribute.
  5. But as a PC game that feels like a port, especially with the save game method, it’s only good not great or excellent.
  6. I understand that the game had not been developed in an English speaking country, but they could have at least found one male and one female actor with decent pronunciation.
  7. AID:TNN comes off, despite its graphical wizardry, a little…sophomoric. The majority of the cinematic cuts and voice acting are god-awful-bad, and not even in that charming, maybe-they-meant-it, B-movie "Resident Evil" way.
  8. Dated technology, distracting controls, and some downright sloppy programming undo what could have been a great game.
  9. There are some gameplay merits of The New Nightmare—including two distinct and interwoven styles of play, an eerie atmosphere, an interesting underlying narrative, and generally more cerebral than monster-bashing activities (except for the last quarter). These strengths are diluted, unfortunately, by the multiplatform limitations imposed on the PC version by the developer.
  10. TNN fails to frighten and is marred by a few flaws that may frustrate rather than satiate.
  11. It's a clumsy port, but what's even more disappointing is that it's a clumsy port of only a middling console game.
  12. The release stands alone as the darkest disappointment those of us who cherish this franchise have yet encountered.

A beautiful, yet vacant, "Resident Evil" rip-off full of annoying key hunts, obtuse and frustrating puzzles, and one of the worst "save game" functions ever. But, hey, it sure is pretty.

I think it is overall good exept the few flaws, this game would easily be a six besides the fact that it scared the hell out of me.

An enjoyable iteration in this old adventure franchise, beautiful, with great atmosphere, and two characters progressing in parallel. An enjoyable iteration in this old adventure franchise, beautiful, with great atmosphere, and two characters progressing in parallel.

What's not perfect is a strange saving system (fortunately, the required medallions are abundant,) and dialogues that are unnecessarily repeated even when you saved the game after they occurred.

Not much to mention in the bad department. A bandage-encounter here and there, like the zombie that appears right in front of you, when and only when the camera changes, making its bite unavoidable.

This game was pretty great considering some of the later titles. The dark atmosphere really did provide a nice scary feeling. The lack ofThis game was pretty great considering some of the later titles. The dark atmosphere really did provide a nice scary feeling. The lack of combat wasn't really a turn off to me because the environments alone really drove home the survival horror feeling. This game is definitely worth a look if you want to go back to the good times of survival horror. It's really cheap on gog or steam and if you just want a chill horror game then this is perfect.
