  1. If you want an undersea simulation or oceanic real-time strategy, then forget it; but if what you desire is arcade action in a novel and challenging context, then it fits the bill.

If you closed your eyes and managed to drown out the superfluous and oft aggravating German techno you wouldn't for a second know that the game took place underwater. It features none of the ambience, deep bass, and whooshing water associated with the setting.
  3. Some games—AquaNox, for example—seem like they were made up of leftover game parts and assembled in total darkness by a team of deranged, acid-dropping monkeys...What's really crazy is that, oddly enough, it ain't half bad.
  4. An entirely enjoyable experience. It's not ultra-weighty gaming, and that's a good thing. It's easy to get into, easy to control, and easy to enjoy.
  5. Gorgeous, with great lighting effects, tremendous fireballs, and richly detailed models. [Mar 2002, p.79]
  6. The dialog is so long and drawn out that it just gets boring. Too much talking and not enough shooting!
  7. A bit of a bimbo, pretty but mindless.
  8. It should by no means be considered to be a submarine simulation, but rather a simple arcade shoot-em-up, used only for time wasting when you have nothing the least bit intelligent to play.
  9. Sadly, in addition to the crap voice acting, the game’s phat/phunky Euro-trash techno beats will have you either tapping your toes or (like me) turning off the music altogether. [Feb 2002, p.80]
  10. While outstanding graphics can make a good game seem great, occasionally a game features gameplay so weak that even amazing graphics can't camouflage its flaws. Enter AquaNox, a game with far more flash than substance.

The graphics and sound are incredible, and it's obvious that this game has a lot of potential, if only the developers would utilize that potential.
  12. 60
If you have a GeForce III or comparably advanced graphics card, the game might be worth picking up as a showcase, or as a simple and fun -- if slightly disappointing -- arcade-style shooter.

The first time you see AquaNox in action, you'll probably be impressed with the bright lights and flashy explosions, but you'll probably tire of those in about five minutes.

I absolutely don't understand those ratings! This is still one of the most addicting games out there, because the setting is so unusual. I absolutely don't understand those ratings! Nothing more than a demo for the latest nVidia chipset of these days.
Very short missions - go there, kill this - you spent more time waiting
Nothing more than a demo for the latest nVidia chipset of these days.
Very short missions - go there, kill this - you spent more time waiting for the menus to appear than playing. Combat is pointlessly awkward - enemies are flat, you can't hit them from the side.
Cartoony character tell you the story, again you will spend more time reading texts than playing.
    Visuals WERE stunning, that's it.

Not bad, I dug the story and the visuals were good for their time but there is a pretty big catch for me.

This is a sequel to a game called Archimedean Dynasty, and it was in every way but graphics a far superior game. I suggest playing that one first, you'll understand.
