With support from Bohemia Interactive already in full swing, ARMA II Operation Arrow Head even with some of the minor flaws that go along with such a massive undertaking is one of those games that we will be playing years from now and still enjoying it.
Multiplayer boasts some pretty crazy 25 v. 25 matches that can rage on over land, and sea, and air (GI Joooe!). And if all of that still isn't enough, it's definitely worth mentioning that you also get the full campaign and multiplayer sets from the first installment of ARMA 2, making the argument not to pick it up a difficult one.
This is both a military sim and a FPS. It is supported by a tremendous modding community which for me means that the game can be twisted and prodded into almost any type of experience you wish. But it has a decent learning curve and there is much background lore to digest, so players who are not aware of this assume that the game is bad. Witness the poor ratings on this website. Note - the DayZ mod came from this game.
New world, new machinery, more interesting missions and fewer bugs – that's the new ArmA II standalone add-on. The best way to start with ArmA franchise. [July 2010]
When the smoke clears, Operation Arrowhead is a decent addition to ARMA II. It adds more avenues for players to experience military operations, and view them with decidedly different perspectives.
Operation Arrowhead certainly features a large assortment of content, both offline and online, that rewards its fans, but for those who prefer their shooters to require little thinking and itchy trigger fingers, you may want to pass this one up.
If you weren't convinced by ArmA II, Operation Arrowhead won't help your appreciation of the series. The only difference with the original is the new content additions, with a reasonable price considering it's a standalone. As for the rest, it's more or less the same game, complete with its flaws, thus it deserves the same score.
This has perhaps the greatest physics engine ever quite conceived, games like Battlefield 4 wish they look as good as this game. This game runs flawlessly on seemingly any computer, I bet I could run this on a potato.
This is perfection, no more words needed.
ArmA II: OA (and ArmA II as well) is a very special game.
On the one hand it's filled with bizarre bugs, lacking animation and strange AI.
But on the other hand if you manage to overcome these it's amazing.
Massive scale warfare that REQUIRES YOU TO THINK, unlike many shooters these days.
It is a simulator therefore as real as possible, so don't expect it to be easy.
Hop in with a server or friends, learn a bit on the mission editor and you'll get an experience no other game can deliver.
Looking forward to ArmA III.
Where to begin, ill start like everyone else and say that you need a pretty decent computer to run this game. im running an i5 650, hd 6870, 6gb of ram and i have to turn settings down to medium to get 40fps. Now on to the game, ArmA 2 and operation arrowhead has great potential to be a great game, unfortunately its it plagued by things like bugs, mentally **** AI, terrible sound effects, a terrible physics engine and clunky controls. The addition of an artillery computer changed artillery and mortars from completely unusable to overpowered destruction(yes the aforementioned could be fixed by mods but this a ArmA review not an ACE review). The single player story line is absolutely terrible but it serves its purpose. Most public servers are filled with hackers or people who have no idea what they are doing and end up blowing everything up or killing them selves. But lets say you install ACE and JSRS, ignore the bugs, bad AI, find a clan server that has dedicated members. Once you do this, Arma 2 will be the best gaming experience you will ever come across ever. The rush you feel when you strafe an enemy convoy with an A-10 or the satisfaction you get when you snipe an enemy officer from 2000 meters away is unmatched it any game. ArmA 2 could have been a great game but sometimes the bugs make it almost unplayable. This is why im giving it a 7 instead of a 10. Hopefully Arma 3 will be better
The only real improvement over the original ARMA2 is that there are slightly less bugs. Otherwise, it still has the same bad or broken mechanics, slow cumbersome interface, bad singleplayer campaign, and inconsistent or cheating AI (my favourite: AI tanks that seem to wall hack you). The only reason to ever play ARMA is because it is more realistic than other series like Battlefield, and it mostly is, but some parts are not realistic at all, which creates a bad bipolar mixture. The DLC campaigns are marginally better but far too short. Sadly, the ARMA series can still feel more like a good tech-demo than a properly polished game. If only ARMA's scale and realism were combined with Battlefield's accessibility and polish, it would be amazing.
This game is another example **** that could have had so much potential but didn't. At first, the game charms you with its introduction to a high level of combat realism and expansive environments.
However, the game is still covered in bugs and you also need a beast of machine to play it. Even with a quad core and ati 4800 series, it was lagging consistently throughout the missions on medium settings. Further, the multiplayer is not set up in a way that makes it fun and easily approachable. The environments look great and realistic, but the AI of the computer severely dents any sense of realism you may take in from the scenery alone. My advice to the developers would be to spend a bit more time making this product, put a bit more polish on it, and get some more feedback from other gamers (perhaps by releasing a beta/message board) because if it was done right, this could be an awesome game
