  1. You'll get plenty of enjoyment out of it for just over $3 a map, a gaming bargain these days.
  2. At it's core, Northern Strike is essentially the same game battlefield fans have come to know and love, but gives players the opportunity for an enriched experience, by adding more of the near-future technology and awesome environments that made the original 2142 such a blast to play.
  3. It makes a lot of changes without alienating the core gameplay ideas, and adds a nice coat of polish and variety on top of the previous Battlefield 2142 content.
  4. If you liked the original, you'll love the new features of Northern Strike. If not, the expansion won't change your mind.
  5. A cheap and filling snack of carnage. [Apr 2007, p.80]
  6. The fast-paced and challenging gameplay is difficult to resist.
  7. Fast and furious. Once you have the commands down this is a blast to play.
  8. If you're a dedicated enough player to have a nicely customised character with a reasonably full tech tree, or even just someone who enjoys a weekly dose of almost-massively multiplayer sci-fi FPS gaming without the monthly fees, the decision to get hold of Northern Strike will be an easy one to make.
  9. The first booster pack for Battlefield 2142 offers up three exciting new maps and a new gameplay mode, making it a must-have for fans of the multiplayer action game.
  10. A booster pack that adds just enough to satiate hunger before a proper expansion is released. All BF2142 owners should own this. Cheap price, too.
  11. Northern Strike is a polished offering, a lot more than the token handful of stuff draped around the glinting trophy of new unlocks it could have been.
  12. Even if you never touch the new maps or vehicles or game modes (which you will), the skill advancements and extra items for each specialization alone are a tremendous reward that is available for the standard game modes and maps. What this doesn't do is address any core technical issues with the game.
  13. Everything in Northern Strike is fine. None of it, however, is vital. [Apr 2007, p.65]
  14. The quality of the content on offer is above cynical expectation - in fact, I'll come right out and say it: Northern Strike is a good expansion pack. [Apr 2007, p.79]
  15. This is decent but minimal new content that you'll want mainly because you're sick of the few maps you were given in the original game.

The biggest thing this booster pack provides is quicker access to unlocks, as well as new unlocks that can drastically affect gameplay. The mine bait grenade for instance, can turn the tables quickly. The maps are decent, but largely more of the same. What Northern Strike really provides is a way for new people to gain access to the better weaposn in the game. I only hope they release a combined edition soon. Full Review »
