Bf2142 is like an elusive club, or like marmite, love it or hate it kind of thing. now i'm not saying it's perfect, hence the 9, but christ on a bike, it's got lots of original features, titan mode, rank system that is genuinley rewarding, and who denies the grim satisfaction of 'podding' on an unspecting victim, genius. but there is a catch... punkbuster can be a mare, but with a bit of fiddling and researching is overcomeable, ea's support for this franchise is undying and has a massive following, regardless of others opinion, also the adrenalin you can be burning off when things start heating up is addictive. the locations are very well thought out too, if a little bland and unpopulated(where is everyone?) team up's is well put together also and in some m/player servers manditory, but that isnt a bad thing as it brings you all together, filling each other up with med and ammo is also a great feeling, commeradery an all, altogether a great game that can be bought for peanuts now. It's a step down from BF2 and it costs more as well. It's just as bug ridden, has a different setting (which you may or may not like better), and generally worse gamplay. If you really love futuristic games and don't already own BF2 then it's worth a look but otherwise buy/keep playing BF2.

This is quite simply amazing I found this to be a much faster paced game than BF2, love the ranking system, love the weapons and vehicles, still a few problems like with any game with the pins rewards I.E. performing the criteria and not recieveing the pin can be quite frustrating but generally a vast improvement on the previous games.

Despite what you think of the actual gameplay (which is pretty much the same as Battlefield 2, only now with 'lazorpewpewpew'), this game gets a 0 because of EA's attempts at placing spyware on your computer and using it to push advertising into the game. Sure, they released an official statement after the internet exploded with the news, stating that it only records time spent looking at the in-game ads, distance from the ads, your region, etc. - it is STILL spyware and advertising to me through a game I've already spent money on. Some say this is the future of videogames (see EA's other ad-fest: Fight Night Round 3). Well, then I say it's time for consumers to tear down these corporate behemoths and push our own agendas, using our wallets. Shame on you EA. Expand

The game does not function. It was released broken. Yes it could probably be a great game. Know this, when you buy it you may not get to play multi player. Please check forums before you buy for things like Disconnect from EA MAster Server. They have no fix for this and it means you will not get to play multi player.

Doesn't matter how good the game is, spyware is just wrong! From the disclaimer in the retail box: "The software may incorporate technology developed by IGA Worldwide, the advertising technology. The purpose of the advertising technology is to deliver in-game ads when you use the software while connected to the Internet. When you use the software while connected to the Internet, the advertising technology may record your IP address and other anonymous information. That advertising data is temporarily used by IGA to enable the presentation and measurement of in-game ads and other in-game object which are uploaded temporarily to the your PC or game console, and change during online gameplay. The advertising technology does not collect personal or identifiable information about you." Expand

Don't buy this game because if you do you will be sending a message to E.A that its ok to stick spyware on your PC. Let me explain. Battlefield 2142, from Electronic Arts, is quickly coming under fire all over the Internet. What was once a must have for many gamers is turning into a fiasco where thousands of gamers are demanding their pre-order money back and vows of never buying another EA game. At the heart of the matter are the mandatory ads included in the game. DICE, who developed the game, have stated that data will be gathered from in game. Web browsing and other profiling data is not being gathered. Here is a fundamental feeling of distaste from gamers who find EA’s behavior reprehensible. When a game is bought, everyone who helped to create it is being paid in the price of the game. There shouldn’t be a need for ads. This would be different, and understandable, if BF2142 were free or significantly cheaper. But it isn’t. There is no option for an ad-free version of BF2142. Gamers are now angry. They want to simply play games. They don’t want video game companies shoving advertisements at them every time they want to play. Gamers, who now feel insulted and annoyed by the ads, are going to take their money and invest it in a game that they can actually play without feeling like they are constantly watching a commercial. However, there are still several questions that EA needs to answer. Can the viewing of ads be turned off and, if so, will you have a complete game or are certain features turned off? Can I uninstall the ads? How often is it running? Is EA going to state this information on the box or in the box? If it’s in the box, is EA going to issue refunds for anyone who opens it, reads the EULA, and then decides that they don’t want to install the game? Most retailers refuse to take games back once they are opened. I see many gamers waiting for a pirated version of BF2142. The third-party market for the information EA is going to collect on gamers is a gold mine. For data miners, it’s an opportunity to put gamers and their non-gaming habits together for better targeted advertising. Realistically, it doesn’t matter if the data harvesting is done in game or not. It’s still data mining and it’s downright dirty for EA to use its customers to collect another shady dollar for their coffers. Have you noticed that E.A dont release there games on budget i mean the SIMS and SIMS 2 have made millions but you will be hard to find the Game for less that £30. If E.A continue these cheap tactics with in game adverts that dont add to the gamplay the you can bet that i will boycott the purchace of all future E.A games and just get me a pirate copy instead. I want to give BF2142 a high mark, it has the potential. The simple truth is that the game does not work yet. There are massive amounts of disconnects from the EA Master Server for a lot of people. Even more are complaining about crash to desktop and punkbuster kicks. Many cannot even log on. If you really like the BF series, my suggestion is to wait, the game isn't going to be sold out. EADice really need to fix the massive problems that still plague this game. It is a real shame because there is so much potential. Don't take my word for it, go to EA.com and look at the forums for BF2142...there are massive problems. Expand

It's pretty greedy to release a game at full price that is blatantly expansion pack material. It's also a lot less fun than BF2, so even at half price I actually wouldn't recommend it. There are better BF mods to download for free out there if you're looking for a new spin on the formula.

This game is 10x better that bf2. It loads twice as fast. Your not spending half your time waiting to join a game like on bf2. There are some glitches in the game. But overall it is more fun to play because of the increases loading/operation.

Terrible game! Walking across uneven platforms is impossible, you'll either lag or stop for a moment and then move, or you just will stop all together.. the game lags. Nothing original in the game, the lack of a forgive/punish system is laughable, not worth the $50. Save yourself the trouble.

Battlefield 2142 is not as fun as most other multiplayer shooters out there and can be very frustrating. Balance is also an issue. Recon class players can run through a group of people, dropping and detonating explosives, and come out of it unharmed if friendly fire is off (it usually is). Also, when sprinting players move very fast but cannot shoot: very useful for getting to cover. However, when not sprinting players move extremely slow: making them easy targets and greatly reducing the fun of one on one fights; since both combatants are practically immobile. Being used to playing Counter-Strike: Source, I found that this made the gameplay extremely boring. Ultimately, after playing this game for about three weeks I'm probably going to throw it away. I played this game on MAX detail level, played just fine fast and smooth. But the graphics seem to be alittle outdated. Did they use the engine from an older game? I think so. and it show like it. The gameplay is ok. But nothing special. Overall I am disappointed with this game. It feels like it was rushed into being released.

Rushed-up development, guinea-pig beta testing with the final customers,. In-game advertising, spyware claims, greedy publishers, high price-tag, day 0 patches, bugs & exploits galore, feels like a bad mod. Huge deception. Its ok, but certainly there is nothing new. The guns just feel like reskinned versions of the bf2 ones. Also the dropships just arn't as cool compared to helicopter-gunships and fighterjets, just because its futuristic don't make it better. Spyware and advertising in games also suck. Wow £35 for a Battlefield 2 mod I have to say its expensive for what is on offer and the real big downer is that if you want to install this game you have to agree to the EULA and let Electronic ARTS Install some data mining software on your PC that allows them to show you ADVERTS while playing the game. This wouldn't have been to bad if this game was free to download but its not and as you know EA don't release there title onto budget, game like Battle for Middle Earth 2 year old game still cannot be brought for anything less than £30/ Sims2 again a few years old and still not available on budget , but im getting of point here. What I'm trying to say is that though this game has a intresting enviroment and plays exactly like Battlefield 2, this game just comes accross as a rather expensive mod thats no worth the money there asking PLUS IT HAS ADVERTS. Ask any games player that having a preference between having ingame adverts shoved in your face or having none, I bet you will find a large marorigty will go for the none option Expand

Terrable shoody release, Team killing is far to easy to do by accident, punkbuster keeps kicking players and ADVERTS. I really don't like the idea that EA is using my IP address to geographicly know my so specific adds can be sent to me. I don't want adverts no decent player wants adverts, this is a awful technology and if people accept it now, then you can bet that EA and other software houses will then start using the technology and before you know it 10 years down you will be playing your battlefield 3429 and you will have to stop every 15 mins to watch adverts for 5 mins. If you allow this now you will open a flood gate of bad things that gamers never had before and never wanted now. Expand

I haven't played it yet, but I think it's a bad sign for the games industry that EA is wiling to sell a game with a title derived from two others in a move that can only be seen as cashing-in at its worst. Battlefield 2 was over-hyped, and I just hope that few people buy 2142.

Good lord...one of the worst EA games, and a shameful entry to the Battlefield series. Riddled with bugs, exploits, frequent disconnects/master server kicks, and SPYWARE of all things, this game is a bonafide stinker. The only people giving this game greater than a 6 rating have obviously never played either BF1942 or BF2, or at least have a poor sense of judgement. This game adds almost nothing new, and even DECREASES the number of kits the choose from. The Titan Mode, craptacular mechanized walker, and 'improved' item system neither make this game interesting, nor do they substantiate a $50+ price tag. EA is just kicking games out the door now, in a Microsoft-esque case of 'ship now, patch later', which seems to have become the norm for the majority of PC games these days. Stay away from this one. The game seems to be nothing but a bug. I would have given it 3, but it seems that EA is just out to make money, but not create good games anymore. They haven't fixed all the bugs in BF2. Have Vista? Yes? Then don't bother. I don't care how much fun BF2 was or how much fun this one looks: don't bother. The patches may or may not work and if they do, the game may or may not ever actually load a map. Why not? Who can say. Maybe the neighbors' dog has indigestion today. I blame the developers for being totally ignorant to the realities of the PC gaming industry and apparently thinking that Vista was some sort of practical joke on the part of Microsoft. An elaborate hoax perpatrated for the amusment of Bill Gates that would never produce a functioning operating system that they would have to support. Not to mention the fact that the game they made is buggier than a swamp in August. If the people at EA had one good idea to sell games, it was to market the heck out of them and if they ever have a second, I hope it involves taking franchises away from studios that turn out inferior products. The third might be doing something about their mostly-worthless tech support, but well-crafted games could at least make that blemish less visible. Punkbuster integration seems like a good idea while it works, but if it doesn't, prepare for hours more troubleshooting fun. It probably kicks more legit users than cheaters on any given day, too. One point for the few hours of fun I had for my money before it mysteriously stopped working. Expand

This is worse than about 50% of the BF2 mods and is just a piece of crap. Weapons do horribly low amounts of damage, bugs and glitches EVERYWHERE, maps are very repetitive and have no difference in game play style, AND the teams are never even, EA/Dice still haven't made a way to properly balance teams and make the game possible for one team. For instance, I played on the titan mode once and my team had lost without more than 2 hits on then enemy titan and everyone on my team was either a private or recruit, I was the only one who had a KD ratio of over 1.0 (all others had about 0.1). This is nothing but a mod of BF2 with different textures and worse game play. Expand

doesn't keep you interested, and it's multilayer only basically. The single player is so pointless it isn't even funny and a good computer really is needed to fully enjoy this game. I have a decent computer and i still get lag. I like the customization, it could have been better but thats how it goes... and it is a good game though and it kept me entertained for a while, but if you want to save a few bucks go with Americas Army because it's free and simple. The main thing that keeps you going in this game is the awards ranks and unlocks, but some of them are so ridiculous its probably not worth it...and what happened to the jets? Expand

I've put in a few hours with this and BF2, and I must say that the lower-grading critics haven't put in the requisite hours to make a fair judgment. I say this because even though I loved BF2, 2142 has a much better communications system in place, really encouraging squad play. The same goes for the points system. Also, combining the points and awards systems is a lot better than not doing so (as in BF2). I also like the greater diversity when it comes to vehicles, and weapons. This makes me wonder how much time critics put into playing the games they review. Expand

Brilliant game, once you actually get it to work. Few problems with installation - you've have to install everything in a very specific way and order if you want to get the Nothern Strike and 1.50 patch working. But provides a great online experiance and awesome maps. Plenty of gameplay variation with 4 different classes and plenty of vehicles/aircraft to master. Disappointed in the "decrease" in single player bot support(something around 5 maps), online play is fun but weapons are weak (though upgrade system makes you pretty neat later on). It would've been impressive if EA took the time to support bots in more maps (like bf1942). But i'll give it credit for the titan mode.

All the bad reviews here are from people who either (a) have run into bugs, (b) have ideological problems with a game having adverts in it or (c) own battlefield 2 already. Addressing each in turn, since the last patch I've still had occasional problems with bugs, but its only a case of needing to reconnect to the EA master server about once every 6 hours of gaming time. Some of that might just be internet congestion related and beyond EAs control. As for the adverts, whatever you think about it as a way of generating revenue, the game is not interrupted to show them, they only show as billboards or posters in the cityscapes you fight in. After ~30 hours play, the only posters/billboards I've seen have been for fictional, in-game reasons. (Join the PAC army now etc.) So it is not at all intrusive. And as for the BF2 players, if you're giving this game a bad review because you like another game better, well thats just stupid. Personally, although BF2 is a great game, I marginally prefer BF2142 as the vehicles aren't as overpowered as in BF2. Along with having less classes but more specialisation makes BF2142 a more balanced game, where the player who managed to grab a certain vehicle first isn't going to have an overwhelming advantage over the other players. (Unlike in BF2 and the guy who permanently circles over your head in a jet). The gameplay is faster and more exciting, but more importantly, its more of an infantry game again and not so much a vehicles game. Expand

Adds nothing to the series. Invites even more stat-abusing than BF2, seeing as you need a ton of unlocks to compete in pubs. Graphics are no better than BF2, and runs much much worse. Complete lack of imagination and an attempt to add spyware and adds to your gaming menu means don't get this game even if it's free.

I like it, it's a futuristic game that still has the feel of a real situation like in BF2. I haven't had any problems that have stopped me from playing the game related to master servers besides the first bumpy release week. I played 1942 in internet cafes and BF2 a whole lot, it remains in the same vein, I honestly can't see what everybody hates about this game. I haven39;t had any issues since a month after the release. As for it not adding anything new, all the weapons are different, all the vehicles are different besides perhaps the combat buggy in functionality, it added a new mode of play, all the battlefields are different, I guess I'm annoyed in what you people wanted to to see added the concept. All the BF games are the same in how they are played; and why would you assume they'd create a new engine for the game when the BF2 engine was so successful on a wide scale, they did revamp the graphics a whole lot. As for the ads....I've played 90 hours so far and I noticed one, it was a billboard that had an advertisement for a gaming mouse I think and get this, the ad that I saw was specially made for the game and used the same art style as the game has in it, not to mention that it was distressed to blend in with everything else in the level and the only reason I saw it was because I was waited for more players to enter the game and was throwing grenades at things and writing my name with a support weapon on the side of a building. Planetside starting doing this before EA did, and I played planetside too and it didn't freakin matter in either game. You don't notice them, you don't unless your looking for them and when you do that you get knifed, your just too busy playing the game. Think about the adverts on battlenet, you people are making something out of nothing. Expand

The maps are okay, Camp Gibraltor is crazy because of the amazing close range parts. If i could change stuff in the game it would be that the maps would be a little prettier. i mean sure there is an iceage but it could look nicer still. Also i would've loved some really cool air vehicles, or hovering thihngs like between the hovertank and gunships. or even some good futuristic weapons. this game also has no single player but thats okay because multiplayer is awesome. another thing about the game is when u start u have basically no weapons. u have to go and unlock em all. its kinda nnoying but when u get far its a lot of fun. A great game marred by technical issues and annoying gameplay decisions (TK Punish system / can't shoot while jumping / friendly mine kills galore). Still, it can't be stressed enough how awesome the underlying game is, if you can ignore the frustrating issues. All in all, it's probably better worth just playing Battlefield 2, but some will find something to like in the new unlock system. Only problem is that half of the unlocks are things that you already start out with in Battlefield 2... and have now just been taken away so that you have more to unlock. Expand

Still a BF game, remains fun and diversified. Futuristic environment makes it fresher comparing to WWII normal FPS. Seen in a lot of forum that EA has implemented a spyware within....the company didn't answer yet on the claims. Give a 6 for this reason, otherwise 8 for gaming experience.

This game is getting a bad rap from people not knowing fully what this spyware thing is. First of all if you search the net it shows that many game companies are going to start doing this and EA is just the first. This program just checks your IP on whether to give you US ads or another countrys ads and all this well the game is loading. Its not that bad if you search around and find out the way our world is going advertising is the thing of the future, So in this case BF2142 is great fun, the maps are great- besides the demo one- futuristic setting is really nice and upgrades cool because it adds to the longetivity/ replay value. Overall well worth your money for the fun years you will have with it ahead. Though if I were you I would try the demo first just to see if it will run on your PC and if it does run out to get it. See you on the Battlefield!!! Expand

after getting the game and installing it i am horrified to see ADVERTS, plus the game just dont feel right as it seems like they wanted to release it before Quake Wars, you can bet that EA are going to try and milk this by releasing Exspencive EX packs with content that should of been included in this this package as EA always does (eg the sims) , but ive now taken the game back to the store and got my money back, the main reason for this is after finding out that thanks to the game my PC now has spyware on it, ive have now decided to boycot all future EA Games because if i wanted to see adverts i would sit ond watch them on TV as all this is , is a form of spamming. When I first heard that Battlefield 2142 was coming out, I wondered why it came out so soon but, I still bought it. I installed it and watched the intro movie...I got an adrenaline rush just thinking about the game but, I was disappointed by the way EA could have left such a buggy game out of their offices. First, it has sooo many problems with creating new accounts. I tried for a a day until I finally had one. Now for the gameplay. It's just like Battlefield 2 expept its futuristic. If you took a screen shot of Battlefield 2142 and compared it to a screen shot of Barrlefield 2, there would be almost no difference between the graphics on the pictures. The really annyoning thing about BF 2142 is the backgrounds are either white and grey or brown. It's always snowing in most of the maps which makes it kind of annoying...Battlefield 2142 is basically an ultra awsome mod af Battlefield 2142. It's a wonderful purchase for Battlefield fans but, it's unnisential... Expand

While I agree with some reviewers that BF2142 is more like a $50 mod, it almost makes it worth the price of admission. Titan mode is in my opinion the best MP mode for the BF series. The class are alot more well rounded with great combinations of kits. I like the art direction the designers took as far as making feel like you really are fighting a war in 2142. One glaring fault are the bugs that still seem to persist. Dice has come a far way since the original BF, but still need to continue hammering away at bugs like CTD. I definitely reccomend a buy on this one. Expand

Very good game, it is decent enough for a game in the Battlefield series. A few things about it though, you may agree with me on these: Pros - If you really think about it there are no real pros to this game. - Cons - Random disconnects from the master server if using a router, which quite a few people have. It is BASICALLY Battlefield 2 but with futuristic weapons and vehicles. In my oppinion, it tries too hard to be a futuristic game, they go even so far as to have a cloaking device! You don't get to have a defibulator(SP?) when Medic(which is actually Assault now.). I mean you have to unlock the defibulator! Is that stupid or what? To continue with that, there is no Medic class for all those who just want to help their fellow soldier and not really shoot unless they are threatened, it is almost like they added the medic "hub" as an after thought. No grenades to begin with! Don't get me wrong though, there aren't ALL bad things to this, it is still a decent game, I personally think it is okay, except for the stupid disconnects because I have a router. This game is pretty solid, but has plenty of bugs. The game is pretty balanced if you ask me. When I said above that there are no real pros in the game, I mean that there is nothing overly good about this game. It is decent enough, though if you haven't gotten BF2(Battlefield 2) yet and are thinking about getting this game instead, get Battlefield2! Battlefield 2 is the better buy at the moment, but I wouldn't count BF2142 out yet. It has potential. Expand

The reason I liked 1942 and BF2 was that is was historical and realistic. When I start have an arsenal of EMP grenades to deploy, they lose me. I think they should have stuck to reality. I am actually having fun going back and playing 1942. If you are a SciFi fan, you might like the game. On a side note, my biggest complaint is that the patches for BF2 have made my frame rate so low that it is unplayable at times. 1942 is still a blast to play. Expand

BF2142 would be a great game if it didn't kick users every 10 or 20min. And I have already done everything that I could to resolve it: opened ports on the firewalll, turned off ZoneAlarm, reset the cable modem, applied the BF2142 patch 1.01, and updated Punkbuster. It's a shame EA realeased a game as buggy as BF2142. That said, Titan mode is still a lot of fun, and that's why I didn't rate this "BF2 mod" as zero. Expand

Poor attempt on EA's part. They should have at least told Dice to update the engine since it has all the same problems as BF2 did. I agree this is just a glorified mod of BF2, so why magazines and websites rated it so high is beyond me. Doubt the majority of the reviewers even had a chance to play a real online game.

Great continuation of the Battlefield series, the Titan mode is really fun, but way too laggy to play on a regular basis. Aside from that, the unlock system adds some variety and motivation to achieve higher ranks besides mere bragging rights. Unfortunately, 2142 is fairly buggy and features some of the longest load times I've seen. Plus the non-existant Singleplayer makes the multiplayer essential. But now that the community has mostly moved on, it's going to be more and more difficult to find a good server. If you don't have this game already, your money is better spent elsewhere unless you can put up with Camp Gibraltar 24/7! Expand

Having never played any of the Battlefield games before, I was extremely impressed with Battlefield 2142. As this is my first taste of online gaming, I did have some reservations at first but having played my first few hours, I became completely hooked. I'm not going to discuss the grumblings about the in game ads as to be honest I have not even noticed them. The game itself is smooth and well laid out. I am currently running with the full audio and graphics settings maxed out and the quality of the audio and graphics is second to none. The variety of weapons and the ability to specialize in Scouting, Assault, Engineering or Support is fantastic and each player will quickly find their own niche. As previously mentioned in other reviews, the vehicles are also excellent fun however with the right kit a soldier can take these out without too much effort. The medals, badges, pins and awards require the right amount of time and effort to achieve and open up the games unlocks as you advance through the ranks. The ability to form squads and multiplay with your friends is probably the best way to advance if you can all join together and tackle the game with strategic targets in mind. The only drawback which I have experienced is that connection does drop every 2 to 3 hours and this can be annoying at times, although in the majority of cases, the point you build up in the round which the crash occurs are still credited to your soldier so it is more of an inconvenience than anything else. Overall, a fast paced and well executed piece of work with enough unlocks and awards to keep you coming back for more. Expand

Great game, takes time to get into it when you are going form BF2 to this. Only complaint is that the hitbox detection can be screwed up at times (like getting knifed form 10+ feet away). People complain of all the bugs, but thats waht all the patches are for now with 1.1 the game is really solid, except when titans are right next to each other than its laggy as hell. I see a lot of raters are having problems with this game and saying how BF2 was much better. Actually i had all these problems with BF2 and hated that game. If you have an Ok computer then this game will work fine (just avoid the titan maps). EA has seemed to fix the major problems now and anything you will experience you will probably experience with BF2 also. They both seem to have the same connection problems. But the game play is generally the same. I'm just happy to see that there aren't so many menu and class choices. In BF2 there were around 8 classes, here there are four. The game is simplified all around and the maps and weapons are much more interesting since you don't just to play with different types of the same guns as in previous BattleField games. The new vehicles are a lot of fun and there are always a lot of different types. Even thought this might just a mod of BF2 , it's a really good mod! Besides it's not $50, its only $20. Also, think of it this way, people pay $20 to play counterstrike which is just a half-life 1 mod (not saying one or another is better, just comparing the situation). Expand

While a very good game, and worth playing, 2142 just doesn't quite capture the solidity of Battlefield 2, runs a bit slower, has in-game ads, and a few issues. Peeves are as follows: 1- The Unlock system is 50% just removing all your standard abilities and making you have to work for them. You start out with NO ability to carry grenades, HALF the sprint as BF2, HALF the sprint recharge speed, NO mines, no shock paddles, no C4, no claymores,... and have to work like a dog just to get yourself back to being a "normal" soldier. Most people don't realize that, so the unlocks are still fun for them. 2- The player movement system has been bogged down, and the game loses a tremendous amount of solid feel by making you have gradually to accelerate when you move forward. Unlike BF2, where you can just start moving forward at good speed, you now feel like there's a delay whenever you press forward. Absolutely sucks. 3- There are in-game ads on billboards throughout the maps. I personally dont mind, because they look scratched beat up and match the scenery to some degree, but if corporate America gets any more fancy ideas, there's gonna be a shortage of game sales, guaranteed. 4- Runs a little slower than BF2, and combat in the Titan can get downright unresponsive. 5- Buggy and unstable / random master server disconnects for people on routers, constant server crashes, punkbuster kicks, etc. This is EA we're talking about, so no surprise. 6- The infernal TK Punish system is still around, you still lose an arm and leg for TKing (even a friendly mine kill)... infact, the only personal harm a TK won't do is jump out of the screen and stab you. TK's really make you hurt, and it sucks considering that 99.9% of TK's are accidental. 7- Can't shoot while jumping... ...At all. Can't even lob C4 over a wall. Nothing. Simply put, if you pull the trigger while in the air, nothing happens. I don't even need to begin describing how ludicrous this is, and how badly it hurts combat situations. -- All in all, other than the things mentioned, it's still similar to BF2, and still one of the best games around. While far from perfect, it still pwns enough to be well worth your time, for many, many hours to come. Expand

Excellent gameplay; to win, a team cannot just have a few 1337s and 20 n00bs who have no idea what the heck they're doing. (in other words, combination of skill and cooperation required to win). Also was the game that first got me addicted to the Battlefield series (I played BF2 before, but never seemed to like it as much as BF2142). I think the weapons are fine, although they could be made a bit more interesting. Cons include various bugs, and it requires a pretty good graphics card to run smoothly with good graphics. (I have Radeon 9800, and I get about 25-30 FPS on fairly low settings.) Expand

  1. It's certainly not gong to supersede the increasingy popular "Battlefield 2," as most of its merits merely held over from its predecessor, but nevertheless it's a brilliant evolution of one of the greatest online shooters ever made. And it's got giant walking tanks. [Dec 2006, p.62]
  2. Little more than "Battlefield 2" with mechs and gunships. In nearly every way, a round of 2142 plays out exactly like a round of its predecessor. Not that that's a particularly bad thing, but for all intents and purposes this is a $50 mod.
  3. Battlefield 2142's new Titan mode is an exciting new addition to the Battlefield series, though for the most part 2142 offers up minor evolutionary improvements over its illustrious predecessor.
