Beat Hazard is a rather traditional Asteroids clone, with the fun addition that your own music can influence the game. Whoever thinks this suffices, will enjoy this game as a way to pass the time. However, the game does not contain the originality we have expected from indie games, and the influence of your own music could’ve been way better.

PC FormatRobotron is a good game to riff off, but there's only so many waves of bullets that you can avoid before you give in and go and do something more interesting instead. [June 2010, p.101]
-
This dual-stick shooter gives you a fun new way to listen to your favorite bands.
-
PC Zone UKThere's not enough reason to come back after the initial wow factor from the visuals wears off. [July 2010, p.90]
-
The best thing Beat Hazard has going for it is the price. At $9.99 it's easy to recommend the title to anyone with the means to play it, as it provides a new way to experience music.
-
Conceptually beautiful, it takes the basic mechanics of a twin stick, top-down shooter and then essentially procedurally generates enemies - and therefore entire levels - based on the ebb and flow of any given music track.
-
At such low price, Beat Hazard is a good stimulation for both eyes and ears.
-
Beat Hazard has a brilliant premise, which is sadly let down by uninspired gameplay and lacklustre presentation. Still, if you're a fan of twin-stick shooters and love music, then this game is for you.
