  • Summary: Blitzkrieg 2: Fall of the Reich spans three major offensives from the final days of fighting on the Eastern front and covers both the Soviet and German campaigns in the long "Siege of Budapest,” "Fortress Kurland," and the Soviet "Operation Bagration." Sixteen historically based missions across 10 new maps will challenge beginning and veteran strategists as they try to either capture or defend the remnants of the German war machine during the final days of World War II in Europe. 1. It is definitely lacking in the accuracy department and suffers from the same style of tactics working time and time again, with the AI never seeming to learn, which will spoil it for more experienced RTS players. But hey, if Blitzkrieg 2 lit your fuel depot then this expansion certainly won’t douse the fire; it just fails to recruit the necessary reinforcements to entice in new players.
  2. The gameplay feels a bit outdated in comparison to newer RTS offerings such as "Company of Heroes," but the game still utilizes some unique features, such as the reinforcement system, that make it quite challenging.
  3. It's a pretty sexless affair nonetheless, and as such, it just doesn't float my amphibious landing craft. [Jan 2007, p.68]
  4. For being an expansion, the developers didn’t focus on providing new units or game modes. Blitzkrieg II: Fall of the Reich is catered to the fans of the series and is one last hoorah for them.
  5. A series that increasingly looks stuck in the past. [Jan 2007, p.77]

The game's biggest hang-up is that it's simply too hard to tell what's going on half the time. Infantry dissolve into bombed-out backgrounds and balk at inexact selection, and enemy AT and artillery always crouch just out of sight and in perfectly staggered waves, reliably razing your shrewdest scouts.

It’s difficult in a mean, nasty way. I’m sure there are some people out there who are up for a challenge like this. Those people are idiots who have no life. If you really like to be punished this much, I recommend checking out your local S&M bar. You’ll likely find the developers of this game there holding a whip with your name on it.
