  1. It offers a very nice graphical engine, great voices and sound effects, and an incredibly addictive and intense story line.
  2. Your teammates, who are supposed to be an asset, are more of a nuisance then support. They won’t take defensive positions well and are easily picked off.

While the vehicle combat is pretty fun, it's still brought back down a few times by design flaws and some odd AI behavior. The missions on foot are marred by poor squad AI, and the solo foot missions can only be so good when the enemy AI is still simplistic.

But Breed is worse than awful; it's absolutely unremarkable and utterly forgettable, the epitome of the generic computer game, lacking a shred of anything clever or offensive or ambitious.
  5. Graphics and sound are impressive enough, but we have come to expect more than that from top new releases, and when the poor AI is factored in, Breed looks less and less appealing. Get your FPS fix elsewhere!
  6. The only thing Breed has going for it is its wide variety of vehicles. But in a game with so many serious problems, it's hard to enjoy them for long.
  7. Nearly everything was done half-assed and it shows; Sound cuts out; Graphics are crap for lack of a better word; More bugs than a spider web; Can’t even use the disc as a coaster since I pissed on it.

What makes this whole fiasco all the more depressing is that Breed has a ton of potential.
  9. It's good, yes, but not brilliant.
  10. The saddest part about Breed is not that it’s a horrible game; it’s that deep inside there’s a good game. All of the ideas were right, but the execution failed on nearly all aspects.
  11. Edge Magazine
Inspired moments, such as the vehicles' mulitple weapons systems, are forced from the mind by the relentless slogs across the levels... In the end, you're likely to discover that the real battle is to continue playing. [May 2004, p.100]
  12. If you can suck it up long enough to get to the main menu you will find a very unique shooter with a mix of squad and personal combat that ranges from ground to air to space. Breed is a refreshing diversion from a game like Halo but it’s certainly no substitute.
  13. PC Gamer
Aside from some frustrating quirks and unrefined space missions, Breed is a good shooter that offers "Halo" fans a veritable add-on pack. [May 2004, p.72]
  14. If it weren't for random crashes and long start ups, the game would have been much more enjoyable.
  15. In a nutshell, while I had some fun with the vehicles and the massive scale of some of the battles, AI bugs, stupid design decisions and awful sounds coupled with dated graphics really didn't help me to immerse myself in it at all.
  16. Until a patch can resolve the glaring flaws, this isn't worth your time, much less your money. [June 2004, p.136]
  17. A very average FPS, hurt by terrible AI and more than its share of glitches.
  18. Cheat Code Central
Don't even bother going online. The game is virtually unplayable.

I didn’t enjoy Breed very much at all, mostly because of the gameplay issues that creatively cut short an already generic storyline. I also just didn’t care for the way the missions were laid out.
  20. There simply aren’t any redeeming aspects to Breed, and perhaps it’s best just to leave it at that.
  21. Rest assured that this is no "March! Off-World Recon," but it’s not quite as good as the pathetic "Medal of Honor: Rising Sun." In a year that has seen the release of the wonderful and technologically gifted "Far Cry," it’s inexcusable of CDV for even contemplating letting Breed out of development hell.
  22. Solid graphics and music, decent level design and clever use of vehicles. The Achilles' heel is clearly the squad mate artificial intelligence, which virtually ruins the whole play experience.
  23. Computer Games Magazine
A ham-fisted and passionless retreat of "Halo." [Aug 2004, p.70]
  24. Computer Gaming World
Considering their utter lack of intelligence, it'd be more accurate to name these guys "Inbreed." [July 2004, p.70]

I agree, this game did fail, but it's potential was limitless. Something about the unriveled 100-square-mile maps, destructive I agree, this game did fail, but it's potential was limitless. Something about the unriveled 100-square-mile maps, destructive environments and ability to fly into space keeps bringing me back to this disastrous, yet would-be revolutionary thing of a game. I even went as far as purchasing a second copy to keep for collection. Full Review »
